Job Description
The Mechanical Supervisor is responsible for the safe, efficient, and profitable execution of mechanical maintenance, repair, fabrication, installation, and inspection activities. Reporting directly to the General Foreman, the Mechanical Supervisor provides hands-on leadership to field and shop personnel while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and client requirements. This role serves as the primary link between operations, customers, and trades personnel and is accountable for workforce productivity, service quality, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise mechanical personnel in daily operations.
- Plan, schedule, coordinate, and prioritize maintenance and project activities.
- Manage labour allocation and workforce utilization.
- Act as primary client contact for assigned projects and service work.
- Ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards.
- Conduct toolbox talks, safety inspections, hazard assessments, and incident investigations.
- Review work packages, technical drawings, specifications, and procedures.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting support for complex mechanical issues.
- Monitor productivity, quality, and project performance.
- Approve timesheets, work orders, and maintenance documentation.
- Coordinate equipment, material, and tool requirements.
- Support estimating, planning, and project execution activities.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
Reporting Structure & Direct Reports
Reports to: General Manager
Direct Reports: Typically supervises 5–20 employees, including Red Seal Journeypersons, Apprentices, Labourers, and Contractors as required.
Provides mentorship, coaching, performance management, and development support to all direct reports.
