We are seeking 1-2 experienced fisheries technicians to join our seasonal team this fall (September to early November) to assist in a mark-recapture study for adult coho salmon. The primary objective of this mark-recapture study is to obtain a reliable population estimate for a Lower Skeena coho salmon population. This work will involve capturing, handling, and tagging adult coho salmon, as well as travel to work sites via jet boats, hiking, or ATVs.
This work will all be based out of Terrace, BC. Crews will be expected to meet in town each morning, and work vehicles will then take crews to river locations. Work days will be be 8-10 hours (overtime paid on any day over 8 hours), 5 days per week.
Interested candidates should be prepared to:
- Wear dry suits and swim across rivers in cold conditions into November (dry suits will be provided);
- Lift and manoeuvre heavy and awkward equipment (such as boat motors and large nets);
- Hike through more remote terrains to reach river locations;
- Travel by jet boat daily;
- Handle large fish (up to 20 lbs);
- Conduct physically demanding work;
- Work outside in all weather conditions.
Valuable skills:
- Experience handling fish;
- Jet boat experience;
- Positive attitude and good team-working abilities;
- Experience working in remote, challenging conditions.
Candidates will be recommended to either prove a valid (in-date) Swiftwater Rescue Technician certification or complete a Swiftwater Rescue Technician course (paid for by this company).
