Intermediate Legal Assistant (Insurance Defence ) – 3 + years experience
We are currently looking for a intermediate legal assistant who will have the following responsibilities. Please note that this position requires you to work in the office four days a week and one day remotely.
Day to day tasks
- Preparing, editing, and proofreading correspondence
- Arranging discoveries, including court reporter and translation services
- Experience working with the SABs and sounds knowledge of AB processes
- Scheduling motions, mediations, pre-trial, and settlement conferences
- Using tickler system to organize bring forwards, reminders, limitation periods and to track the status of each file at all times
- Managing and scheduling lawyer’s calendar
- Managing files through all stages of the legal process
- Opening and closing files
- Drafting pleadings – Claims, Defences and Third Party Claims
- Uploading documents to Caselines
- Ensuring court filings are completed in an accurate and timely manner
- Preparing briefs and motion records
- Drafting routine correspondence and memos
- Requisitioning cheques for payment of invoices and court fees
- Ensure e-filing is kept up-to-date
- Other administrative tasks as assigned
Requirements
- 3 + years’ experience in Civil Litigation: insurance defence (AB and tort) is a must
- Excellent grammar, spelling, and proofreading skills
- Excellent knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure and SABS
- Strong communication skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in MS Word and Outlook
