POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Executive Chef and YWG Operations Manager , the chosen candidate will perform an array of duties to run a profitable, clean, and well-equipped kitchen. The Sous Chef will also be responsible for contributing to day-to-day operations including motivating the kitchen staff. This role operates within a high-volume, fast-casual bar and kitchen environment serving guests around the clock, including early mornings, late nights, and holidays in line with airport operations. Other duties will be assigned as necessary.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of experience in a high-volume, quality-driven kitchen, with leadership experience preferred
- Strong understanding of kitchen operations, including prep systems, line execution, and service flow
- Food Handler / Food Safe certification required; WHMIS considered an asset
- Red Seal (Journeyperson Cook) certification is a strong asset; equivalent experience will be considered
- Completion of a culinary program or equivalent on-the-job training and experience
- Proven ability to lead a team you are calm under pressure, clear in communication, and consistent in expectations
- Solid foundation in food safety and sanitation standards (certification considered an asset)
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail across prep, service, and inventory
- Ability to balance quality and efficiency without compromising either
- Financial awareness with experience supporting food cost control, waste management, and labour targets
- Confident in coaching and developing others, with a focus on building long-term team capability
- Professional, dependable, and accountable you are someone the team can rely on shift after shift
- Comfortable with digital tools such as scheduling platforms and inventory systems; familiarity with Microsoft Excel or similar tools is an asset
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the Chef in leading day-to-day kitchen operations, ensuring service runs smoothly, efficiently, and to standard
- Lead the line during service including managing ticket flow, pacing, and communication to keep the kitchen aligned and composed
- Uphold consistency across every dish, with a sharp focus on quality, presentation, and portioning
- Train, coach, and support kitchen team members across all stations, building confidence and capability over time
- Ensure all prep is completed accurately and on time, with strong systems in place to support service
- Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe kitchen at all times, in line with all health and safety standards
- Support inventory processes including ordering, receiving, and proper storage, with attention to minimizing waste
- Monitor key cost drivers including food cost, waste, and labour, and take action where needed
- Assist with scheduling to ensure strong coverage while staying aligned with labour targets
- Contribute to menu execution and ongoing improvements, bringing a practical, operations-first lens
- Communicate clearly with both kitchen and front-of-house teams to ensure a seamless guest experience
- Step into full kitchen leadership in the Chef’s absence, maintaining standards, culture, and consistency
- Support training and onboarding of new team members as needed

COMPENSATION
- Total compensation ranging from $42,000 - $55,000, inclusive of gratuities and profit-based bonus opportunities (base salary dependent on experience)
