Community-based supports programs that supervise persons with developmental disabilities, ensuring high quality physical, behavioural and emotional supports.
These programs include 3 individuals with Complex needs. Challenging behaviors can occur on a daily basis such as physical aggression (kicking, spitting, hair pulling), therefore applicants with previous behavior intervention experience will be best suited to this position. Suitable candidate will look after some supportive-Independent Living Programs.
Taproot Community Support Services operates several community-based supports programs in Fort McMurray to support people with developmental disabilities in becoming active, empowered and involved in their community regardless of the challenges they face - developmental disabilities, acquired brain injury, FASD, autism, and dual diagnosis.
In Your Role You Will
- Assist with recruitment, screening, hiring, orientation, supervision, evaluation and discipline of program staff.
- Ensure necessary facilities and equipment are in place to operate the program.
- Coordinate work allocation and assigns referrals; process time off requests as required.
- Works with program director to identify professional development and training needs of staff.
- Ensure the program and staff comply with policies, procedures and values of the agency, and use best practices when supporting persons served.
- Make recommendations to the program director regarding program development, formulation of policies and procedures, and program evaluation.
- Facilitate regular staff meetings.
- Advocate effectively for service recipients.
- Represent the program and/or agency in the community, as well as with government agencies, families/caregivers and funding bodies; network with other agencies, organizations, individuals and community groups for the benefit of the service recipients and program.
- Ensure physical environment is maintained according to established standards and
procedures, required inspections are completed, and any required follow-up is done.
- Provide required reports that are accurate and on schedule, and ensure staff submit accurate expense claims and time sheets in a timely fashion
- Ensure staff utilize practices that promote the health, welfare, safety and security of service recipients and staff.
- Support menus and food plans that meet established nutritional standards, both on and off-site.
- Comply with and utilize appropriate crisis prevention and intervention standards and practices.
- Ensure staff who dispense medication to service recipients receive appropriate training, and that all medication is dispensed according to the guidelines established by the Medication Safety and Advisory Committee.
- Operate motor vehicles safely and legally while transporting service recipients or on Taproot business.
- Provide on-call and emergency response as required.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as required
The Position
The Team Leader is responsible for oversight of program operations in this CARF-accredited agency. Ensures day-to- day services to persons served comply with contacts, Taproot policies and procedures, and applicable standards and legislation. Works directly with persons served and their families/care teams as required, and liaises with funders, community partners and other agencies. This position reports to the Program Director.
Scheduling:
This is for one (1) permanent, full-time position, with a weekly schedule of 40 hours:
- Monday through Friday, 0900-1700; may be required to work outside these hours to cover shifts in an emergency.
- Participation in after-hours emergency on-call is mandatory.
- Some travel between programs within the city may be required.

As An Ideal Candidate You Possess
- 3–5 years of experience in disability services, community-based supports, continuing care, or similar social service programs.
- 2+ years of supervisory or leadership experience, including coaching frontline staff, overseeing caseloads, or program administration.
- Diploma or degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Disability Studies, Community Rehabilitation, or related field.
- Valid class 5 driver license, clear driving abstract and reliable vehicle
- Strong understanding of needs-based assessments, disability supports, and community inclusion
