Community Living South Huron (CLSH) is hiring Direct Support Workers to join our team supporting adults with developmental disabilities—some of whom have behavioural and medical needs. If you have experience providing behavioural supports and are looking for meaningful, hands-on work where your skills truly matter, we want to hear from you.
About the Role
As a Direct Support Worker, you will support adults to live meaningful, and inclusive lives at home and in the community.
This role requires the ability to respond calmly, professionally, and consistently to behaviours of concern, while promoting dignity, independence, and quality of life.
You will work within individualized support plans and behavioural strategies, collaborating with supervisors and clinical supports as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct support with daily living activities (personal care, meal preparation, medication administration)
- Implement and follow behaviour support plans, safety plans, and proactive strategies
- Respond appropriately to challenging behaviours, using approved de-escalation and intervention techniques
- Foster a safe, structured, and supportive living environment
- Support community participation, social inclusion, and recreational activities
- Monitor, document, and report changes in behaviour, health, or emotional wellbeing
- Maintain a clean, organized, and respectful home environment
- Provide mobility assistance and support individuals with physical disabilities as needed
What We Are Looking For
- Demonstrated experience supporting individuals with behavioural challenges
- Experience in developmental services, mental health, or a related field (preferred)
- Strong communication skills, sound judgement, and emotional resilience
- A commitment to person-centred, trauma-informed, and respectful support
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification required for employment
- CPR/First Aid Level C with AED required for employment
- Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Police Check
- Valid Ontario G driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle - required for employment
- Reliable, punctual, and flexible availability (days, evenings, weekends, and overnights as required)
