POSITION: Senior Quality & Systems Specialist
LOCATION: 60 Regal Rd., Guelph, ON N1K 1B5
JOB TYPE: Full-Time (Salary $75,000 - $85,000 – dependent on experience)
POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Senior Quality & Systems Specialist is the company's senior technical quality resource responsible for maintaining and continuously improving the Quality Management System while supporting daily manufacturing operations. This role leads quality system compliance, customer and supplier quality activities, internal and external audits, certification requirements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Working collaboratively across the organization, the Senior Quality & Systems Specialist provides technical guidance on complex quality issues, mentors the Quality Specialist, and partners with Production, Manufacturing , Purchasing, and Management to ensure customer expectations and regulatory requirements are consistently achieved. This position is a senior technical role and does not have direct supervisory responsibility.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Quality Management System
- Maintain and continuously improve the company's Quality Management System.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with ISO 9001, CSA N299, customer-specific requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
- Maintain quality procedures, work instructions, forms, and records.
- Coordinate document control activities.
- Monitor quality objectives and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Audits & Certification
- Plan, coordinate, and participate in internal quality audits.
- Prepare the organization for external certification and customer audits.
- Coordinate corrective actions resulting from audit findings.
- Support management reviews and quality system reporting.
- Promote a culture of quality throughout the organization.
Supplier & Customer Quality
· Serve as the primary quality contact for customer quality matters and customer-specific quality requirements.
· Support customer quality inquiries, corrective actions, and complaint resolution.
· Coordinate customer corrective actions (CARs) and verify the effectiveness of implemented actions.
· Review customer quality requirements and ensure they are incorporated into the Quality Management System and manufacturing processes.
· Support customer audits and assessments, ensuring timely and effective responses to findings.
· Provide technical guidance and oversight to the Quality Specialist in the execution of supplier quality activities, including supplier corrective actions (SCARs), supplier performance issues, and qualification requirements.
· Assist with complex supplier quality concerns, supplier audits, and supplier development initiatives as required.
· Analyze customer quality trends and recommend improvement initiatives to enhance customer satisfaction
Advanced Quality Planning
- Lead APQP activities and quality planning for new and existing projects.
- Review and support PPAP submissions.
- Develop and maintain Control Plans, inspection plans, and quality documentation.
- Participate in process reviews and risk assessments.
- Analyze quality trends, capability data, and process performance.
Continuous Improvement
- Lead root cause investigations involving customer, supplier, and internal quality concerns.
- Manage Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs).
- Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing processes, inspection methods, and quality systems.
- Recommend improvements that enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve customer satisfaction.
Technical Leadership
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the Quality Specialist and production team.
- Support and oversee the Quality Specialist in supplier quality, calibration, inspection, and other Quality department activities to ensure consistency, compliance, and effective resolution of quality issues.
- Provides hands-on operation support by performing the duties of Quality Specialist as required to meet departmental workload, vacation coverage, production priorities and day-to-day business needs
- Lead advanced CMM programming, troubleshooting, and inspection method development while providing hands-on support for complex inspection activities as required.
- Assist Manufacturing and Production with interpretation of drawings, GD&T, and customer quality requirements.
- Support contract reviews by identifying customer-specific quality requirements.
- Maintain awareness of evolving quality standards and industry best practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 7 years of quality experience in CNC machining or precision manufacturing.
- Extensive knowledge of machining processes, metrology, and inspection techniques.
- Advanced proficiency interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Advanced experience programming, operating, and troubleshooting CMM equipment
- Thorough understanding of:
- ISO 9001
- CSA N299 (or willingness to become proficient)
- PPAP
- APQP
- PFMEA
- Control Plans
- SPC and process capability
- NCR, CAR, and SCAR processes
- Experience coordinating internal and external audits.
- Knowledge of supplier quality management and subcontractor quality requirements.
- Internal Auditor training or certification is considered an asset.
- Must be able to perform the physical demands of the position, including frequent walking throughout the facility, standing for extended periods, occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds, and pushing or pulling carts and equipment as required.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to influence and collaborate across departments without direct authority.
