Reporting To: General Manager, CBU Students’ Union President, and VP Finance & Operations.
Purpose: The CBU Students’ Union is seeking a full-time Operations Supervisor for the campus pub who will oversee the daily operations of the Pit Lounge; managing staff, customer service, inventory, and ensuring the pub runs smoothly and efficiently, with a focus on student events and activities.
Bar Operations Responsibilities:
- Deliver a student service focused culture at the Pit for students and the CBU community which includes staff, alumni, and CBU guests.
- Train and supervise staff for bar operations of the CBU Students’ Union.
- Supervise the day-to-day operation of the Pit Bar and portable bar operations on the CBU campus.
- Handle inventory management including ordering, pricing, and working with suppliers.
- Ensure legal compliance is met including Alcohol and Gaming regulations, health and safety codes, security, Smart Serve, and any other licensing laws and conditions as deemed appropriate.
- Work with Risk Management & Security Services on major event protocols and incident reporting.
- Pre-Semester reporting to the Lounge Advisory Committee on operations and upcoming events.
- Develop a yearly operational plan under the direction of the CBU Students’ Union Executive Committee; in consultation with students, staff, alumni, and community to be presented annually to the Lounge Advisory Committee.
- Liaise with the appropriate Managers and Directors of CBU on items related to the CBU Liquor License and ensure all parties involved are informed of any issues arising in the Pit. Ensure appropriate paperwork is maintained on these issues.
- Ensure maintenance is kept on all equipment/fixtures and report issues to the General Manager and the VP Finance & Operations.
- Responsible for bar cleanliness and maintain neat and organized stock.
- Be willing to support front line operations and assist, which may happen for various reasons such as staff shortages, missed shifts, or increased traffic flow.
- Ensure the Pit is a safe, inclusive, and welcoming facility for students and staff and operates in alignment with all campus policies (including CBU Alcohol Policies and Procedures, the Student Code of Conduct, Respectful Campus Policy, and Sexual Violence Policy, Smoke Free Campus Policy).
- Report monthly to the General Manager and VP Finance and Operations on the status of the ancillary operations.
- The Operations Supervisor is expected to work during special events which may include weekends and evenings.
Pit Event Responsibilities:
- Coordinate marketing and promotions activities for ancillary operations, in conjunction with the CBU Students’ Union’s V P Promotions with a focus on student engagement and student wellness.
- Plan and carry out events with the Vice President Promotions and other Executives and Coordinators located in the Pit and Games Room.
- Responsible for planning regular weekly events in the Pit. For example; karaoke, trivia, open mic, talent events, gaming nights, etc.
- Assist in coordinating and planning themed weeks and activities located in the Pit & Games Room such as Orientation Week, Pride Week, etc.
- Cooperate and fulfill the needs of the University Events Management team or other special events hosted at the CBU campus requiring portable bar service
Campus Store and Cafe Responsibilities (to be added gradually):
- Assist the General Manager and VP of Finance & Operations with the day-to-day operation of Caper Convenience and Caper Café which include:
- Inventory Management
- Staff Scheduling
- POS Operations
- Equipment maintenance
- Other tasks that would be deemed suitable within the role.
Qualifications:
- A University degree/diploma is preferred. Preference will be given to applicants with a bachelor’s degree in the fields of business or hospitality management or a combination of education and experience.
- 2-3 years’ experience is required in a management position in bar service or event management.
- An understanding of bar and event budgets, managing costs, and minimizing waste.
- Experience in entertainment contracts and event management is an asset.
- Must have the ability to work in a dynamic environment and understand the governance of the Students’ Union
- Experience with computerized cash systems and POS (Point of Sale) software
- Criminal record and background check required
- Must have an NS Driving License and a clean driver abstract.
