Position Overview
The Job Development Specialist (JDS) plays a critical role in the Workforce Development component of the GROW Program, supporting rural Albertans to secure meaningful and sustainable employment. Based in Leduc, this role focuses on job matching, employer engagement, and employment retention, while responding to the realities of rural labour markets across Leduc County, Nisku, Edmonton, and surrounding areas.
The JDS works closely with Career Development Specialists, Service Navigators, and Employer Specialists to ensure clients are prepared, supported, and successfully integrated into the workforce.
Qualifications
· Minimum 2 years of experience in job development, employment services, or labor market engagement.
· A post-secondary degree/diploma/certificate in any related field such as Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Sociology, Education, or Business Administration.
· Demonstrated ability to engage employers, analyze labour market information, and facilitate job placements.
· Self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced, target-driven role. Shows strong initiative, a proactive attitude, and the ability to build relationships and find opportunities.
· Experience in supporting individuals facing employment or life barriers.
· Strong communication and organization.
· Knowledge of Leduc/Nisku and surrounding rural labour markets and community resources.
· Proficiency with client case management systems (Compass considered an asset).
· Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
Key Responsibilities
· Manage a caseload of clients actively engaged in job search and employment development.
· Identify and secure suitable employment opportunities aligned with client goals, readiness, and abilities.
· Support clients with job search strategies, applications, interview preparation, and employment transitions.
· Support Work-Based Learning, Work Simulations, and Work Exposure placements, including readiness assessment, documentation, and follow-up.
· Provide short-term post-placement support to promote retention and address early workplace challenges.
· Coordinate employment-related supports such as transportation assistance in accordance with program guidelines.
· Build and maintain strong relationships with employers across key rural and regional sectors.
· Engage employers to understand hiring needs, job requirements, and workplace expectations.
· Match employers with prepared candidates and support inclusive onboarding and retention practices.
· Participate in employment engagement activities such as career fairs, hiring events, site visits, and information sessions.
· Collaborate with internal teams to respond to labour market trends and emerging employment opportunities.
· Maintain accurate, timely client and employer records in internal systems and Compass (as required).
· Track employment outcomes, placements, retention milestones, and key performance indicators.
· Provide cross-coverage and support for colleagues as needed.
· Perform other duties as required to support program delivery.
Additional Requirements
· This position is based in Leduc and requires regular travel across Leduc County, Nisku, Edmonton, and surrounding rural areas, including occasional client transportation in accordance with organizational policy.
· Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle are required.
· Criminal Record Check (and Child Intervention Check if applicable).
