The Opportunity

RVS invites applications for a full-time (35 hrs/wk) Journeyperson Chef position starting August 27, 2026 at W.H Croxford. The Journeyperson Chef assists students with the practical aspects of the culinary program offered in Rocky View Schools (RVS). The Journeyperson Chef partners with the classroom teacher to support instruction to students by providing effective assistance, demonstration, and guidance. This position may also support the culinary arts catering program at the school.

A Red Seal Certificate in this field is a requirement for this position.

Responsibilities Include

Makes recommendations to the teacher on related CTS/CTF curricular outcomes for the culinary arts/foods programs
Provides instruction under the supervision of the teacher
Provides input on student assessment to the teacher and feedback to the student as appropriate
Supervises students in the practical experience component of food preparation and service
Serves as a resource to students, demonstrating and reinforcing proper culinary techniques and safe use of equipment
Assists with the operation of the food preparation area and directs students engaged in food preparation, serving, cashiering and clean-up tasks
With the teacher, plans meals and menus as required
Ensures that industry standards of hygiene and sanitation are followed in the preparation handling, and serving of all foods
Prepares equipment and supplies for demonstrations
Assists in planning or arranging banquets or catering special events and functions as required
Assists in testing and conversion of recipes or experimentation of new products or new techniques
Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment as required
Performs cooking, baking or other food preparation tasks with or without student participation
Ensures an accurate inventory and maintenance of supplies, materials and classroom equipment. Orders supplies, products and materials to ensure efficient operation of client services and student instruction

Education/Experience

Journeyperson qualifications in cooking or baking
Minimum 1-3 years previous catering or instructional experience
Experience with basic bookkeeping and record keeping
Previous experience within a school division is considered an asset

Knowledge/Skills

Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in current products and techniques
Familiarity with WHMIS and First Aid Certification preferred
Ability to relate well to students and staff, and participate collaboratively in a creative learning team environment
Advanced organizational and time management skills
Exceptional customer service and presentation skills
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications
