We are seeking an Assistant Controller to join our Finance Team. Reporting to the Controller, this position will support the day-to-day financial operations of the company while contributing to reporting, process improvements, and business initiatives. This role will provide exposure to a variety of finance, operational, and IT-related functions.
The successful candidate will be a detail-oriented accounting professional who is eager to learn, bring experience and ideas to the team, and take on new responsibilities as they continue to grow within the organization.
Job Title: Assistant Controller
Location: 680 The Queensway, Peterborough ON.
Hours: Monday–Friday; Core hours are 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Additional hours are required during month-end, year-end, and other operational periods as needed.
Compensation: $28.00–$32.00/hour, depending on experience and qualifications
Reports To: Controller
Duties & Responsibilities:
· Daily Accounting Functions: Manage day-to-day accounting activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, reconciliations, StatsCan reporting, government remittances, and maintaining accurate financial records.
· Month-End & Year-End Activities: Support monthly and annual financial reporting, journal entries, reconciliations, variance analysis, inventory reporting, and audit preparation.
· Payroll: Manage payroll processing, employee benefits, taxable benefits, RRSP/DPSP reconciliations, sales commissions, and related reporting.
· Pricing: Maintain daily and monthly pricing updates, including tax and rate changes, and ensure pricing information is accurate within company systems.
· Information Technology (IT): Act as the primary contact for IT support, user account administration, system maintenance, and technology-related initiatives.
Minimum Requirements:
· 3+ years of related accounting experience
· Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or related field
· CPA designation preferred or currently working towards CPA designation
· Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and business practices
· Ability to prioritize and meet conflicting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
· Strong attention to detail and accuracy
· Ability to work independently and exercise good judgement
· Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
· Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and take on new tasks and projects
· Comfortable working in a smaller company environment where flexibility and wearing multiple hats, including supporting IT-related initiatives, is part of the role
