The City of Port Moody Recreation Department is seeking an enthusiastic, caring, and creative individual to join our team as an Auxiliary Early Learners Leader (Playschool). This rewarding role is ideal for an experienced early childhood educator who is passionate about supporting young children in their growth, learning, and discovery through play-based programming. Through thoughtful program planning and positive guidance, the leader will foster curiosity, imagination, and a lifelong love of learning. The successful candidate will create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where children can develop socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively while building confidence and independence.
As an Early Learners Leader (Playschool), you are responsible for:
- Setting up, maintaining, and ensuring a well-organized and stimulating learning environment, including the preparation and care of program materials and equipment;
- Building positive relationships with participants and their families while serving as a key liaison with parents, schools, and community resources; and
- Utilizing strong communication, collaboration, and customer service skills to support meaningful connections and create a positive experience for children and caregivers alike.
To be successful in this role, the Early Learners Leader (Playschool) will have the following qualifications:
- Completion of an Early Childhood Education (ECE) program or Preschool Certificate Program;
- A minimum of three (3) years of related experience;
- Experience within a recreation environment is considered an asset;
- Demonstrated knowledge of child development principles and play-based learning practices;
- Sound judgment, strong decision-making skills, and the ability to maintain a safe environment for children;
- Ability to be culturally responsive, creative, collaborative, and resourceful in program delivery;
- Experience planning and facilitating arts and crafts, literacy activities, and developmental programs for preschool-aged children;
- Strong communication skills and an ability to build positive relationships with children, parents, caregivers, and colleagues;
- Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills;
- Current Occupational First Aid Level 1 certification; and
- A clean and valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required. Class 7 Novice (N) is not accepted.
Working from the Rocky Point Park building, your hours of work for this role is 3 days a week in the morning: Monday, Wednesday and Friday for 3.25 hours each day.
