Our growing team continuously seeks hard-working and skilled individuals who will have a positive impact within our waste management company. We are currently seeking a Heavy Equipment / Diesel Mechanic to join our team.
A Heavy Equipment / Diesel Mechanic is primarily responsible for the upkeep, maintenance and record keeping of heavy equipment and vehicles. A Heavy Equipment / Diesel Mechanic is responsible for fixing any heavy equipment and vehicles that may break down as well as monitor and perform routine maintenance as per manufacturer specifications and/or as described by Shop Manager. His/her objective is to continuously monitor the condition of the equipment and vehicles to ensure all is in optimum operation at all times to minimize down time and to follow the instructions given to him/her by management.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
· Will need familiarity with parts and components of complex machinery and engines, as well as the tools to fix them;
· Having your own tools is an asset but company will provide as required.
· Must be familiar with electronics, be able to read mechanical blueprints and/or use electronic diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot repairs.
· Able to look at mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems, identify problems and troubleshoot possible solutions.
· Must be able to navigate the minute details of heavy equipment and ensure parts and placement are to OEM specifications and guidelines to ensure proper equipment function and safety.
· Technical experience in computers and computer software required, to include but not limited to conducting research for troubleshooting equipment/vehicles issues, receiving and sending emails, managing digital payroll platforms, and conducting required training etc.
· Knowledge of welding an asset as minor work may be required.
· Similar or related work experience in the waste management field and/or Heavy Equipment/Diesel Mechanic a preferred asset.
· Acts in a professional, courteous and cooperative manner toward co-workers; works with a sense of honesty and trustworthiness.
· Good time management skills to ensure assigned responsibilities are completed in a safe and efficient manner.
· Good follow-through ability; adheres to work schedule and follows through on challenges as they arise.
· Ability to adhere to company policies and rules set forth; knows the hazards of the job and is trained in safety precautions of the trade; does not take inappropriate risks.

· Must be able to perform a physically demanding job; working in all weather conditions
· Willing to work overtime and off shift, only if and when required.
· May be required to travel within Ontario, when required.
Preferred Qualifications
· 3 - 5 years’ experience in all aspects of heavy construction equipment; everything from small engine repair to equipment overhaul; heavy trucks included
· Class A Mechanics License
· Heavy Equipment Certificate
· Highschool Diploma or Equivalent
· Must have valid Driver's license, minimum of G License required; DZ or AZ an asset.
Principal Responsibilities
· Perform all tasks related to the testing, diagnosing, repair, maintenance and reconditioning of heavy equipment, transmissions, engines (gasoline and diesel) and engine components on site.
· Check all heavy equipment particularly, but not limited to, bulldozers, wheel loaders, landfill compactors, excavators, and roll-off trucks of all major brands (John Deere, CAT, Aljon, Doosan); for proper performance and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions.
· Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine the extent of repairs required.
· Communicate with Shop Manager for authorization of servicing and repairs as required.
· Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems using hand and power tools.
· Test and perform final checks on repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that the work meets manufacturer's specifications and safety requirements.
· Communicate work performed and complete service paperwork.
· Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment.
· Update and maintain service records.
· Service attachments for equipment and working tools.
· Expected to perform incidental welding operations on equipment.
· May perform repair work on heavy trucks.
· Specialize in landfill-type machinery or in engine overhaul, power-shift transmissions, fuel injection, hydraulics or electronics.
· Willing to travel to various sites in Ontario (company vehicle provided for travel).
