Who We Are
Paulson Development Ltd. is an underground utility contractor building the infrastructure communities rely on. Our work centres on horizontal directional drilling and fibre optic installation. We're expanding our crew and looking for a skilled HDD Locator to join us.
The Role
We're hiring an experienced HDD Locator to run the tracker alongside our drill operators. You'll be the eyes underground — planning safe bore paths, calling out conflicts, and keeping the drill on course from start to pullback.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Run the locating equipment to track the drill head with precision throughout each bore
- Partner with the Driller to map bore paths and flag potential conflicts with existing utilities
- Keep steady, clear communication with the Driller during every shot
- Assist with conduit installation while protecting nearby infrastructure and the public
- Read utility locates, confirm permits are in place, and verify all locate tickets are current before breaking ground
- Interpret blueprints and work orders accurately
- Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections on locating gear and support vehicles
- Fill out daily paperwork including reports, logs, and hours
- Work in line with company procedures, safety standards, and environmental regulations
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of combined experience in utility locating and HDD work
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence
- Working knowledge of Vermeer drills
- Background in fibre optic installation
- Solid understanding of ground disturbance and safe excavation practices
- Strong safety mindset on every job
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Comfortable traveling for out-of-town work during the week, with occasional weekend travel
Assets (Not Required)
- Class 1 driver's licence
- Current tickets in CSTS 2020, Standard First Aid, Ground Disturbance, and WHMIS 2015 — any missing certifications will be covered by the company before your start date
