The Opportunity
Keyano College’s Library Services Department is currently seeking a Full-time permanent Public Services Technician to join their dynamic team. The Public Services Technician is a patron-driven position that facilitates access to Library services and resources, working under the supervision of the Library Chair. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of public and circulation services, collection and space maintenance, and directing/monitoring student assistants. This position maintains the order of the library’s collections and physical space and, in collaboration with Library team members, assists with the promotion of library services, supports initiatives, and collection development.
Note: this is not a remote or hybrid work opportunity, you will be required to work on campus and relocate to Fort McMurray, AB.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Creating bulletin boards and physical and digital displays to promote Library collections.
- Regularly liaise with other College departments to disseminate Library information to the broader College community.
- Support orientation and outreach activities and library programming to promote collection and increase item circulation, as required.
- Provide respectful, knowledgeable, and friendly customer service to all library users, both in-person and online as well as circulation and basic reference assistance to students, employees, and community patrons.
- Monitor and direct student assistant training, daily task completion including library opening and closing procedures, and special projects.
- Adhere to relevant legislation, including Alberta’s privacy and access to information legislation, POPA/ATIA, and the Canadian Copyright Act.
- Instruct and assist library users on how to use library catalogue, databases, and Springshare applications, including study room booking and librarian appointment booking.
- Lead the Library’s interlibrary loans within WorldShare, including shipping and receiving of physical materials.
- Provide collection and catalogue maintenance (e.g., weeding and inventory projects), as required.
- Coordinate the Library’s Reserves collection and monitor online reference chat services, general library email account, and main library phone line.
- Compile and provide reports on statistics relevant to Interlibrary Loans and the Library’s technology collection.
- Coordinate the overdue and suspension process for all items/accounts; communicate replacement costs of lost, missing, or damaged items to patrons.
- Maintains or develops LibGuides using the Springshare platform to highlight or promote resources for specific subjects, programs/courses, or events and informational and collection signage.
- Collaborate and participate in special projects, as required.
Qualifications
Required Qualification:
- A Library Technician diploma or a two-year college diploma in a relevant field.
- Minimum 2 years of related library experience, new graduates encouraged to apply.
- Knowledge and experience in navigating a variety of library databases and online resources (e.g., OCLC’s WorldShare Management Services).
- Working knowledge of current computer software and programs, including Microsoft 365, Teams, and Canva.
- Demonstrates advanced interpersonal and communication skills.

Compensation and Benefits
- Compensation is $72,749.96 (CUPE TS6-1) with the following health and benefit package.
- Employer paid comprehensive health and dental benefits, including a health spending account.
- Generous defined benefit pension plan though LAPP starting on day 1 of employment.
- This position qualifies for additional payment of the Northern Living Allowance of $1,040.00 per month.
- Generous vacation entitlement and the bonus of paid holidays between Christmas and New Years
- Life insurance is 2.5 times your annual salary
