As a Support Worker, you will provide direct care and supervision to youth residents, implement individualized care plans, and help create a stable and enriching home environment. This role requires patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to the well-being of youth in care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct care and supervision to youth residents, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
- Support residents with daily living skills: personal hygiene, meals, household routines, and community participation.
- Implement individualized support plans (ISPs) and behaviour support strategies as directed by the clinical team.
- De-escalate challenging behaviours using approved crisis intervention techniques.
- Build respectful, trusting relationships with youth while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Assist residents with school attendance, medical appointments, and recreational activities.
- Administer and document medications per established protocols.
- Complete accurate shift notes, incident reports, and daily documentation.
- Communicate regularly with team members, management, families, and external providers.
- Participate in team meetings and ongoing training.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Developmental Services, Psychology, or a related field — OR a résumé with relevant experience in social work or youth care.
- Experience working with youth with developmental disabilities and/or mental health needs is a strong asset.
Required Certifications & Clearances
- Restraint Training / Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) — valid certificate required.
- CPR & First Aid Certificate — current and valid.
- Broad (Exempted) Record Check (BRC) via the Ottawa Police Service: Ottawa Police Service – Police Record Check Website
Child Welfare Check — must be completed within the last 6 months.
