ENVRSUST 9011 - Community-Based Sustainability focuses on sustainability as it is understood and implemented at the community scale, with particular emphasis on municipal contexts, local institutions, and place-based decision-making. Students engage with sustainability challenges as they arise in communities through policies, governance structures, planning processes, and institutional frameworks. The course emphasizes applied problem-solving and decision-making at a foundational scale, providing students with practical insight into how sustainability principles are translated into action within communities, municipalities, and local organizations.
Please Note that the MES program plans to have two sections for this course, with a single instructor teaching both courses:
The instructor will be hired at (0.25 FCE) for each section.
- There will be a total of 5-6 sessions for each section at 3.5 hours per session.
- The instructor may conduct field trips as part of the course contact hours
- Section 001 delivered 9-12:30 and section 002 1:30-4:00 pm on the same day
- All applicants must be available for both section times
- All classes will take place in the same term
- Course will be delivered weekly, Wednesdays, October-November
