Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct, mentor, and support the People & Culture team, providing guidance and fostering professional development.
Employee Relations & Absence Support
- Provide expert advice to managers on employee relations matters for consistent and equitable application of policies.
- Support and guide managers through employee absences including short-term and long-term disability, parental leaves, and other legislated or company-sponsored programs.
- Work closely with leaders and employees to facilitate smooth transitions and compliance with legal requirements.
- Address employee concerns and conflict situations professionally.
- Support communication strategies related to employee relations and culture.
Management Advising & Strategic People & Culture Support
- Partner with business leaders to understand workforce needs and provide HR solutions aligned with organizational goals.
- Coach managers on leadership development, change management, and employee engagement strategies.
- Support workforce planning, succession planning, and talent development programs and initiatives.
- Provide change management support and guidance to leaders during organizational transitions and business initiatives.
Performance Management
- Support the performance management cycle to ensure alignment with business objectives.
- Guide managers in setting performance goals, conducting evaluations, and managing Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs).
- Provide guidance related to career development and employee growth.
Compensation & Rewards
- Apply knowledge of compensation programs, salary benchmarking, and pay equity principles.
- Support managers with benefit administration questions and processes.
- Support salary review processes and provide guidance on compensation recommendations in alignment with organizational practices.
- Provide input on incentive program administration for consistent application of compensation guidelines.
Payroll Management
- Oversee payroll activities to maintain compliance with federal regulations.
- Manage employee compensation processes and assist with payroll-related inquiries.
- Stay updated on payroll regulations, labor laws, and tax requirements.
- Support payroll audits by working with internal teams and external auditors.
- Mentor the payroll team, providing coaching and direction.
- Identify opportunities for improvements in payroll processes and systems.
- Collaborate with People & Culture and payroll to develop and refine payroll policies and operating procedures.
- Recommend system enhancements and technology improvements to support accuracy and efficiency.
Continuous Improvement & Culture Alignment
- Lead People & Culture projects that enhance efficiency, workplace culture, and business operations.
- Collaborate with the VP, Human Resources on process improvements and HR best practices.
- Assist senior management in developing People & Culture strategies aligned with organizational objectives.
- Analyze HR metrics and trends to support informed decision-making.
- Partner with business leaders to identify opportunities to streamline People & Culture processes and implement best practices.
Workplace Culture & Diversity
- Foster a diverse, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture.
- Support employee engagement initiatives and activities that strengthen organizational culture.
- roactively identify workplace concerns and support a positive and inclusive work culture.
Policies, Compliance & Best Practices
- Support the development, implementation, and updates of People & Culture policies and procedures.
- Maintain HR practices that comply with Canadian employment laws and industry standards.
- Assist with HR initiatives that enhance employee experience and operational effectiveness.
- Work with the VP, Human Resources to monitor HR budgets and align expenditures with organizational goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation or actively in pursuit of is considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of HR best practices and federal employment legislation
- Knowledge of absence-related compliance requirements.
Experience, Skills & Competencies
Experience:
- 5-7 years of progressive People & Culture experience, preferably in financial services or corporations.
- Experience in payroll management, benefits administration, and HR compliance.
- Experience advising managers on employee relations, performance management, and workforce planning.
- Proficiency in HRIS and payroll systems. (ADP, Workday)
Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- High attention to detail,accuracy and confidentiality.
- Ability to prioritize multiple initiatives and meet deadlines.
Competencies:
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in HR practices and employment legislation.
- Collaboration and partnership across departments and with senior leadership.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
- Work is performed in a professional office environment using standard office equipment.
- Frequent multitasking is expected in support of HR operations and project work.
- Occasional increases in workload may occur during HR cycles such as performance reviews, payroll year-end, or major HR initiatives.
- Minimal to no travel unless requested for leadership or HR-related needs.
