The Green Root is a locally owned Wellness Market & Healthy Café committed to helping our community live healthier. We offer specialty coffee, smoothies, açaí bowls, wholesome baked goods, natural groceries, vitamins, supplements, and wellness products. We're looking for an enthusiastic, dependable, and customer-focused team member who enjoys working with people, loves healthy food and beverages, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
As a member of our team, you will:
- Prepare and serve espresso-based drinks, specialty coffee, smoothies, and other café beverages.
- Assist with baking and light food preparation while following food safety standards.
- Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting customers, answering questions, and making personalized recommendations.
- Help customers find wellness products, natural foods, vitamins, supplements, and specialty grocery items.
- Understand and communicate dietary options, including Gluten-Free (GF), Dairy-Free (DF), Vegan, Vegetarian, Keto, and other specialty diets.
- Operate the POS system and accurately process customer transactions.
- Stock shelves, rotate inventory, and maintain attractive retail displays.
- Keep the café, kitchen, and retail areas clean, organized, and inviting.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
- Work collaboratively with teammates to ensure a positive customer experience.
Qualifications
We're looking for someone who:
- Has a positive attitude and enjoys helping people.
- Has excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Is reliable, organized, and able to multitask in a busy environment.
- Has previous experience in a café, coffee shop, bakery, restaurant, health food store, or retail environment (preferred but not required).
- Has knowledge of wellness products, natural health, vitamins, supplements, or organic foods (an asset).
- Has knowledge of dietary lifestyles and food sensitivities, including Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free, Vegan, Vegetarian, and other specialty diets (an asset).
- Holds a valid Food Handler Certificate, or is willing to obtain one shortly after joining our team.
- Can stand for extended periods and comfortably lift up to 25 lbs.
Availability
Applicants must be flexible and available to work a variety of shifts, including:
- Weekdays
- Evenings
- Weekends
- Holidays, as required
