The neighbourhood living room
10 DEAN is a specialty coffee shop and bar with five locations around Toronto. We run a rotating single origin espresso, make our syrups in house, use ceremonial grade matcha, and get our food from local partners. Coffee is the heart of it and where most of our business comes from.
Then in the evenings the room turns over and we start pouring cocktails, wine and beer. Our baristas work days and evenings both, so you’d be part of that side of it too. If you’ve bartended before, great. If you haven’t, we’ll teach you, and either way it won’t be the biggest part of your week.
Where we are
- Waverley, College & Spadina
- Parker, Eglinton Subway Station
- Elm, Queen & Church
- Sloane, near Yorkdale
- Marlow, Bloor & Dufferin, opening October 2026
Hospitality is the job
Anyone can be taught to pull a good shot, and we’ll happily spend the time getting yours right. The harder thing, the one we can’t really teach, is noticing that the regular who comes in every Tuesday seems off today, or remembering someone’s order the second time they walk in, or clocking that a table needs something before they’ve had to look around for you. That’s what brings people back. The coffee has to be excellent, and it is, but nobody sits in a café for two hours because of the espresso.
What you’d be doing
Dialling in, pulling shots, steaming milk, building drinks to recipe. Talking with guests rather than just taking their orders, which means knowing what’s on bar today and having something to say about it. Looking after the space, the equipment, and whoever’s walking into the next shift. Helping with some preps because to deliver top quality we doing a lot of things from scratch and making cocktails once the evening starts.
Who we’re looking for
Someone who’s already worked in coffee or hospitality and wants the next thing rather than more of the same. If you’ve got the feeling that you’ve stopped getting better where you are, you’re exactly who we’re hoping reads this.
You’ll need to be the kind of person who sees what needs doing and gets on with it. When something’s off, you’d rather sort it out than mention it to someone else and move on.
Warmth counts for more here than polish does. Plenty of people are perfectly pleasant to be served by and you’ve forgotten them by the time you sit down. We’re after the other thing.
Flexibility helps too, because most of your day you are floating between bar, POS & Floor
And you should actually like coffee. Not competition level, not encyclopaedic, just genuinely interested in it.
What you’d bring
Espresso experience on a manual or semi-automatic machine, and you’ve worked a proper rush before. Food Handler and Smart Serve, or the willingness to get both sorted before you start. Weekends.
