Alberta Health Services (AHS) is looking for a dependable, highly motivated individual for the position of Food Service I that is dedicated to both high-quality work and customer service. This Regular Part-Time position is located at the University of Alberta and Stollery Children’s Hospitals. This customer focused Dining Room Ambassador FSI position is accountable for performing a variety of tasks to ensure an optimal meal experience, including assisting patients and their families with placing meal orders using electronic ordering systems and managing meal-related questions and concerns. Other tasks assigned to this role may include, but are not limited to, preparing, handling, and portioning of food products; cleaning the food service area, soiled dish ware, and food service equipment; ordering and putting away food products; assembling and delivering meal trays; safely operating and cleaning commercial food service equipment; and collecting soiled dish ware from patient rooms. The successful candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced environment with speed and accuracy; work under pressure in high stress situations; communicate effectively in English with patients, co-workers, and other hospital departments; work as an effective, professional team member; demonstrate a patient first approach; and perform basic math functions. The position involves medium to high physical demands tasks.
Description:
As a Food Service I, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks associated with basic food preparation in accordance with AHS standards and procedures. Your typical duties may include packaging and portioning food items, preparing food according to set guidelines and menus, serving meals to patients and customers and cleaning and sanitizing equipment, dishes, tables and serving areas.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Physically capable to lift food, supplies and equipment up to 46lbs and must be able to push/pull meal carts up to 250lbs. This position requires you to walk and stand on your feet for the duration of your shift.
Additional Required Qualifications:
1 year of customer service experience and 1 year of food service experience is required. Basic knowledge of and experience with computer applications is required. Occasional lifting above shoulder height is required. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds is frequently required. Ability to exert a push/pull force of up to 50 pounds without assistance is frequently required. All new employees must be able to attend a 2-day Patient Food Service New Employee Orientation followed by an onsite orientation shift. Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience delivering exceptional customer service in a healthcare environment is preferred. Knowledge of Epic and CBORD is an asset. Food Safety Alberta Certification is preferred. Knowledge of WHMIS is preferred. Experience in perishable inventory management and First In First Out procedures is preferred. Experience with industrial food service equipment is an asset.
