Position Summary
The Receiving Room Clerk is responsible for receiving and processing incoming merchandise, verifying shipments, maintaining accurate inventory records, and ensuring the warehouse and receiving areas remain clean, organized, and efficient. This position plays a key role in supporting store operations and delivering exceptional service to both customers and fellow team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and verify incoming merchandise against invoices and purchase orders.
- Inspect shipments for shortages, damages, and backorders, reporting discrepancies promptly.
- Price and process incoming merchandise.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse and receiving area.
- Move merchandise efficiently between the receiving area, warehouse, and sales floor.
- Safely load and unload freight.
- Assist customers and staff with lifting and moving heavy or bulky merchandise.
- Process special orders and maintain accurate receiving documentation.
- Prepare outgoing packages and product returns according to company procedures.
- Provide in-store services such as cutting pipe, cutting glass, making keys, and other customer service duties as required.
- Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment (training provided if required).
- Follow all company receiving procedures, safety standards, and documentation requirements.
- Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, including providing support in other departments as required to meet the operational needs of the company.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous warehouse, receiving, or retail experience is considered an asset.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Basic computer and math skills.
- Ability to accurately read invoices, shipping documents, and product information.
- Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to safely lift and move merchandise weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Willingness to learn new skills and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Forklift experience is an asset; training and certification will be provided if required.
