About The Role:
Station Place Long-Term Care Home is seeking a Behavioural Support Worker (BSW) to join our dedicated care team. Reporting to the Behavioural Supports Coordinator (BSC), the BSW supports residents experiencing complex and responsive behaviours associated with dementia and related conditions.
Using restorative care principles, Adult Montessori approaches, and responsive behaviour strategies, the BSW works collaboratively with residents, families, and the interdisciplinary team to support individualized plans of care. This role combines direct resident support, staff coaching, behaviour monitoring, documentation, and participation in life enrichment programming to promote resident safety, dignity, and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities:
· Provide behavioural support to residents experiencing responsive behaviours, including resident rounding and temporary 1:1 support as directed
· Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) and personal care during periods of responsive behaviours
· Observe, document, track, and report behavioural changes to the Behavioural Supports Coordinator and registered staff
· Implement individualized care plans, behaviour support strategies, and restorative care approaches
· Update and monitor behaviour tracking tools and communication boards as directed
· Coach and support care team members in managing responsive behaviours effectively and consistently
· Assist with education, training, and knowledge sharing related to responsive behaviour management
· Support life enrichment and therapeutic programming for residents with responsive behaviours
· Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with company policies, InterRAI standards, and legislative requirements
· Foster positive relationships with residents and families while supporting a resident-focused culture of care
· Adhere to Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC), Occupational Health & Safety, and workplace safety standards
Qualifications:
· Developmental Service Worker (DSW) diploma or Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate required
· Experience in long-term care and dementia care preferred
· Training in responsive behaviour management, including U-First, GPA, or equivalent required
· DementiAbility training completed or willingness to complete within six months of hire
· GPA Certified Coach training considered an asset
· Food Handler Certification considered an asset
· Knowledge of restorative care principles and resident-centred approaches to care
· Strong communication, teamwork, coaching, and documentation skills
· Professional, compassionate, and resident-focused approach to care
· Ability to work a variety of shifts, including weekends, holidays, and replacement shifts as required
