POSITION OVERVIEW
Matrix HR is recruiting a Service Technician for a marine safety equipment service facility in Delta, British Columbia.
The Service Technician will inspect, service, repair and maintain lifesaving marine equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications and established safety standards.
This position is well suited to someone with mechanical aptitude, general labour or service experience, strong attention to detail and an interest in hands-on technical work.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inspect marine lifesaving equipment for damage, defects and wear
- Service, repair and maintain equipment according to manufacturer specifications
- Confirm that required parts, tools and materials are available before beginning work
- Complete equipment checklists accurately
- Prepare certification and recertification documentation
- Test equipment to confirm that it is in safe working condition
- Maintain accurate inventory records for equipment, tools and spare parts
- Request replacement parts or stock when required
- Assist with shipping and receiving
- Report safety concerns promptly
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Travel to other company locations within British Columbia when required
- Complete additional related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience in general labour, mechanical repair, maintenance, servicing or a related field
- Two to three years of relevant experience is preferred
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
- Experience using hand and power tools
- Ability to follow work instructions, checklists and manufacturer specifications
- Strong attention to detail
- Good organizational and time-management skills
- Reliable attendance and a consistent approach to completing assigned work
- Ability to communicate professionally with customers, supervisors and coworkers
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience with shipping, receiving or inventory control is an asset
- Marine service or marine safety experience is an asset
- A trades diploma is an asset
- A valid Class 5 driver’s licence is preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs without assistance
- Ability to crouch, kneel, climb, balance, reach, twist and perform repetitive movements
- Comfort working in tight spaces
- Ability to work in environments that may include heat, cold, dust, fumes, noise and changing weather conditions
- Ability to maintain close visual attention while inspecting and servicing equipment
SCHEDULE AND OVERTIME
- Monday to Friday
- 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- One-hour unpaid lunch
- Two paid 15-minute breaks
- Occasional overtime may be required
- Overtime is paid at 1.5 times the regular rate after 48 paid hours
