Overnight Pet Sitter (Independent Contractor)
Overview:
We’re looking for dedicated, reliable, animal-loving individuals to join our Overnight Pet Sitting team!
This position is ideal for remote workers, freelancers, students, retirees, or professionals looking for supplementary income while providing attentive overnight care to pets in their homes.

Core Responsibilities:
Overnight Pet Care
- Stay overnight in clients’ homes while providing attentive care and companionship to their pets
- Maintain pets’ normal routines to minimize stress and anxiety
- Monitor pets for any changes in behaviour, appetite, or health
Dog Walking & Exercise
- Provide walks and enrichment activities as required
- Reinforce positive behaviours using positive reinforcement methods (training provided)
Daily Care
- Feeding pets according to client instructions
- Refreshing water bowls
- Administering basic pet care tasks as required
Communication
- Provide regular updates to clients through photos, videos, and messages
- Maintain clear communication with the Good Shake team
Documentation
- Complete Daily Journals and visit reports through our client portal
- Record important information regarding pet behaviour, activities, and care provided
Home Care
- Respectfully care for clients’ homes during stays
- Bring in mail or packages when requested
- Maintain a clean and professional environment

- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently
- Comfortable staying overnight in clients’ homes
- Familiarity with (or willingness to learn) Good Shake’s positive reinforcement philosophy
- Strong work ethic and pride in delivering exceptional care
Must-Haves:
- Weekend and holiday availability
- Smartphone with data plan
- Valid driver’s license
- Access to a reliable vehicle
- Comfortable caring for dogs of various sizes, breeds, and temperaments
Nice-to-Have:
- Previous pet sitting, dog walking, or animal care experience
- Experience working remotely
- Basic knowledge of dog behaviour and training
Job Details:
- Position Type: Independent Contractor
- Typical Overnight Hours: Generally between 5:00 PM – 8:00 AM or 6:00 PM – 9:00 AM
- Hours may vary slightly based on individual pet needs
- Paid per sit/visit, not hourly
- Tips are additional
- Travel time is unpaid; however, we make every effort to minimize travel distances to save time and fuel costs
- Service area: Local neighbourhoods
Why This Position Works Well for Remote Workers
Many of our overnight sitters work remotely and are able to continue their regular work while providing companionship and supervision for pets. As long as the pets’ needs remain the priority, this role can be an excellent source of supplementary income.
