Who we are
Augusta Coffee Bar is the home of Catalogue Coffee Merchants and Landrace Coffee Roasters, located in the heart of Kensington Market. We are not a typical cafe. We are a working expression of the specialty coffee supply chain, housing our importing operation, roastery, and coffee/event lab under one roof, while serving exceptional coffee, food, and soon, an evening beverage program to one of Toronto's most vibrant communities.
We are building something truly special, and we are looking for someone who wants to be part of it.
The role
We are hiring a Cafe Manager to lead the floor at Augusta. This is a hands-on leadership position, five days a week including both weekend days. You set the tone for every shift: the energy, the standards, the culture. You manage the team, hold the systems, and make sure every guest leaves having had a genuinely great experience.
This role reports directly to the Director of Operations and works in close coordination with our Head Chef. As Augusta grows, so does this role.
What you will be doing
- Lead and manage the team on the floor every shift, including scheduling, training, coaching, and performance
- Set and hold the standard for hospitality, coffee quality, and service across every interaction
- Manage daily operations: opening and closing, checklists, cash reconciliation, end-of-day reporting
- Build the weekly schedule and manage labour in line with targets
- Order coffee from Landrace and contribute to the curation of Augusta's coffee program
- Maintain quality across all brew methods daily, espresso, filter, and pour over, and drive solutions when something is off
- Keep the team educated and genuinely excited about the coffees and food we serve
- Coordinate closely with the kitchen on food service flow and the overall guest experience
- Support the launch of Augusta's summer evening program, community events, and seasonal activations
- Collaborate with the Catalogue and Landrace teams, with the opportunity to participate in cuppings and stay close to the coffee program
- Oversee inventory, supply ordering, and day-to-day cost awareness
What we are looking for
- 2 years of experience in specialty coffee, with genuine knowledge of and passion for the craft
- 2 to 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role in hospitality
- Solid understanding of cafe operations including food service, with comfort and experience navigating a full-service environment covering both coffee and food.
- Someone who leads with warmth and holds a room without having to raise their voice
- Strong communicator who surfaces issues early and keeps the team aligned
- Organized, systems-minded, and comfortable holding standards consistently
- Someone who sees the potential of what we are building and genuinely wants to help get it there
- Comfortable in a fast-moving, evolving environment. We are launching a lot right now, and that is part of what makes this role exciting
- Smart serve certified
- Knowledge of beer, wine, and cocktails considered a strong asset.
- Legally authorized to work in Canada, with a valid work permit of at least 2 years remaining if applicable. We are not able to offer sponsorship at this time.
What we offer
- $22-24/hr depending on experience
- Tips
- Benefits after 3 months
- A rare working environment at the intersection of a cafe, a roastery, and an importing operation
- Real room to grow as Augusta scales across its programs
- A team that cares deeply about quality, craft, and each other
If this struck a chord, if you see what Augusta is and what it can become, we want you on this team. This is a rare opportunity to step into something truly unique at an early and exciting moment, a specialty cafe, roastery, and importing house all under one roof, with the ambition and the drive to become one of the best cafes in the country. We cannot wait to hear from you.
