Position Title: Superintendent/Supervisor
Reports To: Management Team
Hours: 50 hours + per week
The Supervisor is a working supervisor who is ability to lead and direct a team of Operators and Labourers to successfully complete a civil road construction project. The Supervisor must be a self-starter, and able to to plan, coordinate, organize, and direct/oversee the other staff to meet the project requirements. The Supervisor is responsible for the quality, and safe performance of the project and completion of the project on time and budget. The essential elements of the position include, but are not limited to;
- Abide by all company policies, procedures.
- Maintain a positive attitude and the reputation of Hall Construction Inc.
- Engage in physical labor including lifting, pulling and pulling heavy objects when necessary.
- Responsible for creating accurate, detailed daily timesheets, production reports, safety documentation, and ensures the daily submission of documents to head office.
- Able to understand and follow blueprints, contract drawings and contract specifications including Municipal and regional standards, OPSS and OPSD.
- Able to communicate clearly (both written and oral) with clients, client representatives, supervisors/managers, and to direct and oversee Labourers and Operators.
- Ability to operate other construction or grading equipment an asset.
- Competent in the use of various hand tools and powered (pneumatic and electrical, hydraulic) industrial tools, including pressure washers, saws, drills etc.
- Ensures proper use of equipment and resolve any mechanical failure of equipment.
- Adheres to and ensures constant compliance with Health & Safety Compliance and regulations. Including the proper use of personal protective Equipment (PPE). This includes, skin, face, hand and foot protection, and work processes, in a multiple number of combinations.
- Works in various temperatures indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions: including heat and cold while wearing various levels of personal protective equipment.
- Able to work in potentially elevated noise levels, confined spaces, including lifting in areas of low clearance or at heights, with the appropriate PPE and training.
- Other duties and tasks as assigned from time to time by management and will be required by the needs of Hall Construction business, and may include evening and weekend work, etc.
- Maintain any company sites, tools, vehicles and equipment assigned in a clean, orderly state, ensure that garbage is containerized and disposed.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalency. Post-secondary school education an asset, but not required.
- Valid drivers license required as a continuing condition of employment
- Maintain a clean driving record
- OSHA based Training an asset
- Previous experience overseeing and leading Civil Road Construction Projects
Required knowledge and understanding:
- Knowledge of civil road construction and construction practices
- Knowledge of materials, and equipment capacities/limitations etc.
- Knowledge of MTO regulations as they pertain to light truck usage
- General layout and survey knowledge including the use of laser levels and understanding of GPS.
Physical Requirements:
This position involves regular physical activity such as standing, lifting up to 50lbs., pulling/pushing, carrying, grasping, reaching, crawling, stooping and crouching in/out of confined spaces, and equipment operation. Frequently requires walking, climbing, speaking, listening, color determination and clarity of vision at 2 feet or more (with or without lenses).
