Job Description
Reporting to the Executive Chef, the Production Assistant Manager will lead, manage and coach the Food Production Supervisors to ensure that food production, plating and assembly of components are completed per specification and in a timely and efficient manner. Other responsibilities include utilizing lean manufacturing and best practices to achieve operational excellence and to meet and exceed company standards including specification compliance, productivity, run rates, labour cost control, HACCP, first pass yield and portion control.
Job Duties:
- Serves as a key member of the leadership team
- Leads the supervisors and production team to achieve production metrics in a manner consistent with our culture and values
- Maintains and provides reporting from various systems such as SAPMM, CBase, HRIS Systems, scheduling programs and spreadsheets.
- Reviews current methods and tools in place to help develop new processes and performs process time standards, maintains applications to assist in hours control documentation.
- Updates and maintains the program database.
- Modifies daily work assignments in accordance with airline schedules and participates in the shift bid and vacation bid process.
- Trains team members in the safe, efficient operation of equipment.
- Ensures all SOP’s & meal specifications are followed in a timely manner.
- Oversees clerical staff, including Load Control and Scheduling Team.
- Oversees all facets of the daily operation of food plating and assembly ensuring compliance with company standards.
- Utilizes Variable Production Schedule (CBASE-VPS) to establish standard and monitor efficiency
- Liaises with Process Improvement Manager (LPS) to review, refine and drive process change; standardize processes (SOP’s)
- Participates in promotion and progressive discipline process of team members.
- Assists with the implementation of policies and procedures consistent with those of the organization to ensure the efficient and safe operation of the department.
- Evaluates performance and makes recommendations as required.
- Ensures quantities, specifications, service delivery and quality match and meet production logistics.
- Sets targets, measures and records of productivity ensuring team members are held accountable.
- Must be able to multi task in a high volume environment while still meeting deadlines.
- Performs root cause analysis and responds to customer inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
- Responsible for the safety of team members in accordance with established company and WorkSafe standards.
- Ensures team members are in compliance with company quality control and hygiene procedures.
- Trains and develops team members in operational matters.
- Manages team members in accordance with company policies, collective agreement and provincial labour legislation.
- Participates in meetings with managers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities Required:
- Post-secondary education in business, engineering or related field is preferred
- Five or more years of production experience within manufacturing with five or more years of leadership experience
- Previous experience within food industry will be considered an asset
- Demonstrated knowledge of Lean Processes (LEAN/Six Sigma certificate is a plus)
- Experience working in a fast paced environment
- Solid understanding of production processes
- In depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- Ability to lead, train, motivate and coach individuals and teams
- Excellent relationship building skills with the ability to achieve results
- Ability to manage multiple initiatives and to delegate tasks
- Effective communication skills with the ability to influence change and encourage action
- Solid problem solving skills and ability to coach and mentor others
- Must be available to work all shifts including afternoon, evening, weekends and statutory holidays
