We’re looking for an engineering practitioner, educator, or graduate degree engineering student who can make complex ideas feel approachable — and make a virtual classroom of teenagers want to participate.
You won’t be standing at the front of a classroom reading from slides. You’ll help students test ideas, compare engineering disciplines, work through design challenges, and build a capstone project they’re proud to present. The curriculum gives students an introductory look at mechanical, electrical/computer, civil/structural, aerospace, biomedical, and chemical/environmental engineering. Your job is to bring those fields to life — without making students feel like they need an engineering degree to keep up.

Lead engaging, well-paced sessions for learners aged 13–18 using Circuit Stream’s Introduction to Engineering curriculum.

Turn engineering concepts into clear explanations, relatable examples, and hands-on simulator activities.

Introduce students to multiple engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical/computer, civil/structural, aerospace, biomedical, and chemical/environmental engineering.

Guide students through the engineering design process: define, ideate, prototype, test, learn, and improve.

Help students compare disciplines, identify what interests them, and choose a direction for their individual capstone project.

Coach students as they scope, build, refine, and present their Engineering Pathways Project.

Create a classroom environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, experimenting, making mistakes, and trying again.

Provide timely, constructive feedback on student work, assessments, reflections, and presentations.

Prepare lesson plans and review course materials before each session so delivery is organized, accurate, and engaging.

Communicate proactively with the Circuit Stream team about student progress, classroom issues, curriculum feedback, or anything that could improve the learning experience.

You genuinely enjoy teaching teenagers. Subject-matter expertise matters, but the ability to connect with students matters more.

You can explain technical concepts clearly without overcomplicating them.

You bring professional, academic, or project experience in one or more engineering disciplines.

You have completed a bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, or a related STEM field, or you are in a Masters or PhD program. Equivalent industry or teaching experience will also be considered.

You are comfortable learning and using browser-based simulation tools, or can pick them up quickly with provided training.

You are confident presenting, facilitating discussion, managing a classroom, and keeping students engaged.

You are dependable and prepared. You show up on time, know the material, and communicate early when something needs attention.

You welcome feedback, adapt quickly, and care more about giving students a great experience than doing things exactly the way you have always done them.

Teaching, tutoring, mentoring, coaching, facilitation, or teaching-assistant experience is strongly preferred.

An engineer, educator, graduate student, or STEM professional who gets energy from helping young people learn.

Someone who can be warm and approachable while still setting clear expectations and maintaining a focused classroom.

A practical teacher who uses examples, demonstrations, questions, and activities — not just lectures.

A curious generalist who is comfortable teaching across several engineering fields at an introductory level.

Someone who takes ownership of the full student experience, not only the content on the lesson plan.

You love engineering but do not enjoy working with teenagers.

Your default teaching style is a long lecture with limited student participation.

You become frustrated when beginners need concepts explained more than once or in a different way.

You are looking to teach only your own specialty and are not willing to learn the broader course content.

Course length: 20 instructional hours delivered across 10 weekly sessions of 2-hours each week.

Delivery: Online via Zoom

Teaching dates and hours: Sundays from 10am - 12pm PT (this is 1-3pm ET)

Training: Availability to complete self-directed onboarding before the course begins and 1 teach-back practice session live-online.

Compensation: Competitive fixed contract rate of $1,175 for the 10 week program.
