Health Care Aide – Overnight (Stroke & Brain Injury Experience Required)

We're looking for a compassionate and experienced Health Care Aide to provide overnight one-on-one care for a valued client in Spruce Grove.
This is a unique opportunity to build a meaningful relationship while providing specialized care that truly makes a difference. This position follows a consistent, permanent overnight schedule averaging approximately 30 hours per week.

Required Schedule
This position follows a permanent two-week rotating schedule:
Week One
· Wednesday: 7:30 PM – 7:30 AM
· Thursday: 7:30 PM – 7:30 AM
Week Two
· Tuesday: 7:30 PM – 7:30 AM
· Wednesday: 7:30 PM – 7:30 AM
· Thursday: 7:30 PM – 7:30 AM

About the Client
Our client is living with the effects of a stroke and requires a caregiver who understands the unique challenges that can accompany an acquired brain injury.
The successful candidate will have previous experience supporting individuals with:
· Stroke recovery
· Acquired brain injuries
· Aphasia and communication challenges
· Cognitive changes following a brain injury
· Gentle and effective redirection techniques
· Behavioural and emotional changes that may occur following a stroke
This role requires someone who is calm, patient, compassionate, and able to adapt their communication style to meet the client's individual needs.
The ideal caregiver understands that successful care often comes from changing your approach—not expecting the client to change theirs. They recognize that patience, reassurance, consistency, and understanding can make all the difference.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include:
· Providing overnight supervision, companionship, and reassurance.
· Assisting with personal care while promoting dignity, independence, and choice.
· Supporting safe mobility and transfers.
· Monitoring for changes in the client's condition and reporting concerns promptly.
· Using patience, reassurance, and effective redirection techniques when appropriate.
· Assisting with medications within the Health Care Aide scope of practice.
· Preparing light meals or snacks as required.
· Completing light housekeeping to maintain a safe and comfortable environment.
· Completing accurate, detailed, and timely documentation.
· Working independently while exercising sound judgment and professionalism.
Qualifications
Applicants must have:
· Health Care Aide Certificate.
· Current CLHA registration in good standing.
· Professional liability insurance.
· Current CPR & First Aid Certification.
· Current Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check.
· Valid Alberta driver's licence.
· Reliable vehicle to travel to the client's home in Spruce Grove.
Experience & Skills
The successful applicant will have:
· Minimum 3 years of Health Care Aide experience.
· Demonstrated experience supporting individuals following a stroke or acquired brain injury.
· Experience working with individuals experiencing aphasia or communication challenges.
· Strong understanding of person-centred care.
· Experience using respectful and effective redirection techniques.
· Excellent observation and critical thinking skills.
· The ability to remain calm and patient during challenging situations.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills.
· The ability to work independently with confidence and sound judgment.
