The City of Selkirk is currently in search of a Lifeguard to join our team. This position will report to the Manager of Cultural and Recreational Programs. Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, the Lifeguard shall ensure a safe aquatic environment for participants through supervision, accident prevention, rescue skills, public education and public relations at the Selkirk Park Pool & Splash Pad.
Aquatic Safety
Ensure the safety and supervision of participants in the pool area.
Implement and enforce all rules, regulations and policies of the City of Selkirk governing conduct of persons using the Selkirk Park Pool to ensure maximum safety for pool patrons.
Assist with the promotion of water safety education.
Educate the public of safe practices and water smart education.
Perform water rescue and administer first aid as required.
Maintain cleanliness of the pool and surrounding area including but not limited to skimming, vacuuming, sweeping and picking of garbage.
Assist the Supervisor with the enforcement of rules and regulations of the pool as necessary.
Complete appropriate reports relating to accidents, first aid, daily logbook and facility inspection logs.
Observe and maintain guarding rotations and regulations surrounding ratios and safety.
Complete patron/facility counts.
Process daily cash and pool gate entry tickets information.
Complete daily pool reconciliation, when required.
Ensure the safety and supervision of participants in the pool area.
2. Customer Services
Maintain effective public relations employing tactful, polite and helpful demeanor.
Educate the public with respect to the content of programs offered by the City of Selkirk.
Perform other related duties as may be assigned.
Minimum Requirements shall include:

Minimum qualifications shall include:
Must be 16 years of age to work as a Lifeguard in Manitoba
Current CPR-C Level or higher, in accordance with the standards set by the International Liaison Committee of Resuscitation
Current First Aid Certification from one of the following:
St. John Ambulance Standard First Aid Certificate
Red Cross Standard First Aid Certificate
Lifesaving Society Aquatic Emergency Care Certificate
Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid Certificate
CritiCare Inc. Standard First Aid Certificate
Safety Services Manitoba Standard First Aid Certificate
Heart Beat Inc. Manitoba Standard First Aid Certificate
Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Service Award
Clear Current Child Abuse Registry Check
Clear Current Criminal Record Check
Must be physically able to perform all the laboring aspects or other duties associated with the position
This is a Casual Non-Union position ranging from July 2026 – August 31, 2026. This position requires the individual to work outdoors and in an outdoor pool environment. The nature of the position requires irregular working hours including evening and weekend shifts to a maximum of a 40-hour work week, including statutory holidays. This position is excluded from the Collective Agreement and is open to all applicants. Applications will be accepted until July 29, 2026, at 4:00 p.m.
