Shape Distinctive Residential Landscapes with OG Gardens
OG Gardens is looking for a Landscape Designer with a passion for art, a strong instinct for how people experience outdoor spaces, and the confidence to help clients invest meaningfully in their landscapes.
This is an opportunity for a designer who can translate artistic instinct into complete, professional landscape plans, and who wants to develop a stronger design practice in collaboration with a supportive ownership and management team. You will work with new and existing OG Gardens clients, helping them imagine what their properties can become through thoughtful composition, horticultural richness, and a more refined outdoor living experience.
Our aim is to build a comprehensive residential design offering, one that considers the landscape as a whole and brings together beauty, function, personal expression, and long-term value. We want to shape this offering in collaboration with the right designer, bringing together their artistic strengths with OG Gardens’ experience in landscape care, long-term performance, and the way outdoor spaces function as complete living systems.
OG Gardens will support this work through access to an established client base, active promotion of design services, and close collaboration with ownership and management. We want to help the right designer strengthen their creative application, improve how their ideas are developed and presented, and build confidence in the client-facing and commercial dimensions of the role.
The Opportunity
This role is well suited to a designer who wants to:
- Create for discerning residential clients across the Lower Mainland
- Work closely with ownership and management, with support in developing both the artistic and business-facing sides of the role
- Build a stronger portfolio of complete, thoughtful, high-quality residential design work
- Help shape the direction of a growing design service rather than step into a rigid existing template
- Strengthen their ability to guide clients from possibility to commitment
- Refine the processes that turn strong ideas into landscapes that are beautiful, buildable, and compelling to invest in
- Take part in developing a design offering with genuine ambition
We are not looking for someone who simply produces drawings from a checklist. This role is best suited to a designer who goes beyond technical production and brings design interpretation, judgment, and creativity to each project.
We are looking for a designer with perspective, sensitivity to place, and curiosity about how landscapes can carry beauty, mood, ecology, culture, and function. Someone who can create, communicate, and help clients recognize the value of thoughtful design.
Our Design Direction
OG Gardens wants to contribute to the leading edge of residential landscape design.
We are interested in landscapes that feel intentional, expressive, and deeply connected to the people who live with them. Our goal is to develop design work that balances artistry with function, refinement with livability, and immediate visual impact with long-term performance.
We are especially drawn to design approaches that include:
- Strong artistic composition, proportion, and spatial experience
- Pollinator gardens and ecologically supportive planting
- Planting design that considers seasonality, structure, texture, colour, movement, and lasting garden character
- Outdoor spaces that support entertaining, retreat, gathering, and everyday enjoyment
- Integrated landscape systems that improve aesthetic quality, efficiency of care, and long-term maintenance outcomes
- Design sensitivity that responds to the architecture, client, site, and surrounding context
We also value the ability to work within different landscape expressions. A strong designer may be called to create spaces that are classically informed, historically resonant, naturalistic, contemporary, minimalist, richly layered, or quietly understated, depending on the property and the client. We are interested in designers who can adapt their creative language while maintaining a clear sense of taste and intention.
What You Would Do
In this role, you would:
- Meet with new and existing clients to understand their goals, preferences, property needs, and outdoor living aspirations
- Conduct site visits throughout the Lower Mainland as required
- Develop design concepts that respond to both the client’s vision and the character of the property
- Prepare professional landscape plans, including:
- Full landscape drawings and concept plans
- Planting plans and detailed planting design
- Hardscape plans and layout concepts
- Lighting plans and related lighting concepts
- Broader spatial planning for outdoor living, entertaining, and lifestyle use
- Present ideas clearly, persuasively, and with an understanding of how to help clients move from interest to confident action
- Recommend design-related enhancements and products that align with the approved design direction, site conditions, and client budget, including:
- Decorative pots and container features
- Seasonal annual and bulb displays
- Specimen plant selection and placement
- Lighting products and related lighting opportunities
- Outdoor lifestyle features and products
- Other landscape upgrades that align with the design vision
- Help document and promote design work through photography, video, and other visual media
- Contribute to marketing and sales efforts that communicate the value of OG Gardens’ design services, design-led enhancements, and broader residential landscape offerings
- Work with ownership and management to improve consultations, presentations, proposal approaches, sales conversations, marketing content, and design workflows
- Collaborate on stronger methods for applying artistic concepts in ways that remain practical, coherent, and valuable to clients
- Contribute to a design service recognized for beauty, intention, and long-term value
What We Are Looking For
You must have:
- The ability to prepare professional landscape plans
- At least 2 years of relevant landscape design experience
- A working foundation in:
- Landscape design principles
- Plant identification
- Plant selection
- Basic planting design
- Confidence meeting with clients and discussing design ideas in a clear, thoughtful, and engaging way
- The ability to respond to different client tastes, architectural styles, and landscape settings with appropriate creative judgment
- A portfolio or examples of previous design work
Additional Strengths We Value
The following would be strong assets:
- Experience with high-end residential clients
- Comfort with design consultation, sales, or guiding clients through aesthetic and investment decisions
- Experience with photography, video, social media content, or other design-oriented marketing
- Knowledge of lighting, outdoor living features, containers, seasonal displays, or other premium landscape enhancements
- Interest or experience in pollinator gardens, ecological design, habitat-supportive planting, or lower-maintenance landscape systems
- Artistic training or a strong eye for composition, proportion, atmosphere, and spatial experience
- Formal education, certification, or accreditation in landscape design, horticulture, garden design, landscape architecture, or a related field
- Language ability in Chinese, Japanese, or an Indigenous language
- Cultural knowledge or design understanding related to Chinese, Japanese, or Indigenous:
- Landscape traditions and spatial principles
- Plants, plant symbolism, and garden history
- Cultural context that could support more thoughtful client communication and design interpretation
These are not required, but they would be especially valuable as we continue to develop design work with greater depth, sensitivity, and range.
How the Role Can Develop
We expect this position to begin with flexible project-based work, with the opportunity to expand as the design service grows.
For the right person, this may develop into a more consistent part-time role and eventually a full-time position. Compensation is expected to fall within a range of $35–$55 per hour, or an equivalent project-based structure, depending on experience, scope, and the final arrangement. The employee or contractor structure, and any project-based or blended compensation model, will be confirmed prior to engagement.
More importantly, we are looking for someone who wants to contribute meaningfully to the direction of this work and build lasting value through the quality of both their design and their client relationships.
