Natural Forces Solar is a dynamic renewable energy company specializing in the engineering, procurement, construction, and maintenance of solar PV systems. We deliver innovative, robust and cost-effective renewable energy solutions to clients across Canada. As our project portfolio grows across Atlantic Canada, we're expanding our engineering team to deliver these projects to the highest standard.
We are seeking a Lead Engineer to drive the electrical engineering and design of our solar PV and battery energy storage (BESS) projects. This role leads design execution from initial concept through issued-for-construction (IFC) and into commissioning, working closely with our Director of Engineering and our development, project management, and construction teams.
Your Role:
- Lead the design of distribution and transmission connected solar PV and battery energy storage projects, from concept through construction and into commissioning.
- Own the design workflow; plant design, single-line diagrams, protection and control, equipment specifications, and construction drawings; and act as Engineer of Record where appropriate.
- Drive and review power system studies (load flow, short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash, and grounding) and energy resource modelling.
- Serve as the technical lead for interconnection with Nova Scotia Power and other utilities, managing relationships, applications and submissions.
- Guide equipment selection, develop specifications and support procurement and technical bid evaluation.
- Provide engineering support through construction and commissioning, including RFIs, submittal review, site reviews, and utility witness testing.
- Mentor and technically guide design engineers, project engineers and co-op students as well as help build out our QA/QC and design review practices.
- Collaborate across teams to ensure designs align with regulatory, technical, schedule, and cost requirements.
Your Profile:
- A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Registration as a P.Eng with Engineers Nova Scotia, or eligibility for licensure with a clear path to registration (we'll support you in getting there).
- Roughly 6+ years of electrical design experience, ideally in solar PV, renewables, power systems, or utility interconnection. Strong candidates from adjacent power, industrial, or consulting backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
- Working knowledge of Canadian electrical codes (CSA C22.1 / C22.3) and relevant IEEE standards; familiarity with utility interconnection processes (Nova Scotia Power an asset).
- Experience with power system study tools (e.g., ETAP) and/or PV performance modelling (e.g., PVsyst) is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to lead design work, review and check others' engineering, and mentor junior staff.
- Strong communication, organizational and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to coordinate across multidisciplinary teams.
