POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial activities of the organization. This includes financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, auditing, taxation, payroll oversight, and internal control processes. The Controller works closely with the executive team and department leaders to support informed financial decision-making and the company’s financial performance within a manufacturing environment.
JOB DUTIES

Complete financial statement preparation (monthly and year-end) and analyze results to support operational and strategic decisions.

Prepare and manage annual operating and capital budgets, including detailed variance analysis related to manufacturing activities and long-term business plans.

Conduct cash flow analysis and optimize the company’s cash position, ensuring effective treasury management and funding for production needs.

Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset ledger, including machinery and equipment; prepare capital acquisition reports for shareholders as required.

Prepare job cost analyses and support product costing efforts to improve cost control and pricing strategies.

Ensure compliance with federal and provincial taxation laws, HST/GST remittances, and statutory reporting obligations specific to manufacturing entities.

File required government reports accurately and on time, including those related to payroll, WSIB, and corporate taxes.

Act as a liaison with tax authorities and government bodies to address inquiries and ensure compliance with regulations.

Coordinate and support external audits by providing complete and accurate documentation for manufacturing-related transactions and assets.

Coordinate daily accounting activities with Accounts Receivable & Account Payable functions to ensure accurate transaction processing and timely financial reporting.

Assist in establishing and maintaining efficient accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting procedures.

Support inventory accounting processes and ensure alignment of physical inventory with financial records.

Participate in cross-functional management meetings, providing financial insight into production planning, procurement, and cost control.

Assist in the development and enforcement of internal policies, procedures, and employee benefit administration.

Contribute to long-term strategic planning and business improvement initiatives within the manufacturing environment.

Complete special projects and other duties as assigned by senior leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:
-
CA, CGA, CMA designation, or equivalent relevant work experience.

Business Administration diploma or equivalent.
-
Minimum of 2 years of relevant accounting or manufacturing finance experience.

Thorough knowledge of Canadian accounting principles, taxation laws, and regulatory compliance.

Solid working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office and other computer-based applications.

Strong organizational and communication skills.

Preferred:

Previous relevant experience in a comparable industry.

Experience with manufacturing ERP/MRP systems.

Self-starter with the ability to prioritize many different tasks and meet deadlines in a lean manufacturing environment.
