Our client is seeking a Corporate Controller to take ownership of the finance function and bring clarity, consistency, and discipline to financial reporting and operations. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role is responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial information and providing senior leadership with reliable, decision-support insights into business performance.
This is not a narrowly focused technical accounting role. The Controller will be expected to lead the finance function end-to-end - enhancing reporting processes, strengthening internal controls, mentoring the accounting team, and serving as a trusted business partner to ownership. Success in this role requires someone who is comfortable operating in an entrepreneurial environment where not everything is fully built out and who can bring structure and accountability without overcomplicating the business.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, commercially minded, and comfortable working across a multi-entity, cross-border organization. They possess strong communication skills and can effectively adapt their message to owners, operational leaders, and team members with varying levels of financial knowledge. They are naturally curious, willing to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and ensure financial results accurately reflect the underlying performance of the business.

Requirements
Required:
- CPA designation (CPA Canada)

4+ years pf experience working in public practice, with audit or review experience from mid-tier companies

5+ years of progressive experience, including a minimum of 3 years in controllership responsibility

Strong financial reporting, period end close process, and internal controls experience

Experience working in a privately held or mid-market business with Canadian and U.S. operations

Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences

Hands-on, practical approach with strong judgment and accountability

Legally authorized to work in Canada
Preferred:
- Experience in a multi-entity environment with operational complexity (e.g., inventory, distribution, or manufacturing)

Experience working with external auditors, tax advisors, and other professional advisors both in Canada and the US

Exposure to ERP systems, reporting tools, and business intelligence platforms

Experience leading and developing teams
