The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Civil Design Technologist to join our team. Reporting to a Project Manager or Senior Engineer, you will be a key contributor to various infrastructure projects, taking designs from initial concepts to construction ready drawings and specifications.
This role requires a high degree of proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D software, a solid understanding of civil engineering principles, and the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Drafting: Produce engineering drawings, plans, and profiles for civil infrastructure projects, including site grading, earthworks, watermains, sanitary sewers, storm drainage systems, and roadways, using Autodesk Civil 3D.
- Modeling & Analysis: Utilize Civil 3D for corridor modeling, surface creation, pipe network analysis, and generating comprehensive design data.
- Calculations & Estimates: Complete essential engineering calculations (e.g., quantity take-o3s, volumes, cost estimates) and assist with preparing technical specifications and construction documents.
- Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, project managers, and other technologists to coordinate designs, resolve clashes, and ensure project standards are met.
- Project Support: Assist with reviewing conceptual designs, survey information, and record drawings. May occasionally assist with field data collection or construction site inspections.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure all designs comply with relevant municipal, provincial, and industry standards and codes.
Qualifications and Experience
Required:
- 3–7+ years of progressive experience in civil engineering design and drafting.
- Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D.
- Demonstrated experience designing municipal infrastructure or land development projects.
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, construction practices, and drafting standards.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Assets (Nice to Haves):
- Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Engineering Design and Drafting Technology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Registration or eligibility for registration as a AScT. (Certified Engineering Technologist) with ASTTBC.
- Experience with other relevant software (e.g. ArcGIS, PlexEarth, Global Mapper).
