About the Client:
We are seeking a compassionate caregiver to support an independent woman living in a retirement home in Ottawa. She is experiencing some memory changes and needs assistance with daily medication management and light personal care. While she maintains her independence with most activities including bathing and dressing, she benefits from gentle reminders and supportive companionship. She is bilingual and enjoys walking and staying active.
Responsibilities:
- Administer medications from pre-organized weekly pill containers
- Provide toileting and hygiene assistance as needed
- Supervise during weekly showers (remain outside bathroom for safety)
- Accompany on walks around the facility and neighborhood
- Provide memory prompts and gentle redirection
- Assist with light tidying and bed making
- Perform basic nail care (fingernails and toenails)
- Offer companionship and conversation
What We're Looking For:
- Experience with memory care and cognitive support
- Comfortable with personal care and toileting assistance
- Patient, calm, and reliable demeanor
- Strong communication skills with both client and family
- Takes initiative and works independently
- Bilingual in Italian and English preferred (English required)
- Respectful of client independence while ensuring safety
Schedule:
Monday through Friday, one hour per day. Additional coverage needed for two weeks in early September (six days per week) while family travels. This is a short-term position expected to last approximately 2-3 months until the client transitions to long-term care.
