Northern Lung Function is Edmonton’s first pulmonary function testing lab outside of the hospital system, proudly serving the community for over 40 years. With 10 locations across the Edmonton area, we are known for providing the gold standard in pulmonary function testing, delivering accurate, high-quality diagnostic results and exceptional patient care. We are looking for a Casual Pulmonary Function Technician to join our experienced, supportive team.
Job Summary:
As a Pulmonary Function Technician, you will perform specialized pulmonary function tests that assist in diagnosing and managing respiratory conditions. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, compassionate, and comfortable working with patients of all ages - including pediatrics. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, appreciates established clinical procedures, and wants to contribute to a respected healthcare organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive pulmonary function tests, including spirometry, lung volumes, and diffusion capacity.
- Prepare patients for testing by explaining procedures and ensuring comfort and cooperation.
- Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain pulmonary function testing equipment, ensuring accurate calibration.
- Accurately document and record test results according to clinical standards and protocols.
- Assist with patient preparation, including medication administration when required.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant testing environment following all infection control procedures.
- Collaborate with physicians, Respiratory Therapists (RRTs), and administrative staff to support smooth patient flow.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience with MGC body box
- Experience in a clinical or hospital setting is an asset (pediatrics or acute care experience is highly valued).
- Familiarity with medical terminology, especially related to respiratory care.
- Experience with medication administration related to respiratory testing is an advantage.
- Certification as a Pulmonary Function Technician is preferred butnot mandatory -full training is provided for the right candidate.
- Strong communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and a compassionate approach to patient interactions.
