CNC Machinist Job Description

Compensation: $25-30/hour (Based on Experience)
Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CNC Turning Machinist to join our manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC machines to produce high-quality precision components while ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.
What You Will Do:
- Set up and operate multi-spindle, multi-axis CNC mill-turn lathe machines with minimal supervision.
- Follow setup procedures to mount fixtures and establish work coordinates.
- Apply in-depth knowledge of cutting tools, including selecting appropriate speeds and feeds.
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, and apply geometrical dimensioning and tolerances (GD&T).
- Operate and utilize CMM (coordinate measuring machines) for inspection purposes.
- Perform precise inspections using metrology tools and gauges to ensure part accuracy.
- Utilize strong mathematical skills in geometry and trigonometry for machining tasks.
- Collaborate with team members to meet production standards and ensure product quality.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Completion of Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
- Certification of Apprenticeship or Qualification in Tool and Die Maker and/or General Machinist.
- 2–5 years of experience working in a CNC machine shop environment with extremely close tolerances.
- Ability to efficiently set up machines for complex parts.
- Effective interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg) as required.
- Perform repetitive motions involving hands and arms.
- Work safely in a manufacturing environment while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Work Environment
This position is based in a manufacturing facility and may require shift work, overtime, and flexibility to meet production demands. The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced environment focused on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
