What You Bring to the Table
To excel in this role, you should possess:
- Reliability Clearance (mandatory)
- Protective Attire: Ability to wear/use protective footwear and workwear as required
- Military QL5 Cook Qualification or an equivalent combination of institutional cooking training and relevant work experience
- Team Player Mindset: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to thrive in a collaborative environment
Responsibilities
As a Cook, your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Preparing, cooking, presenting, and delivering food services through cafeteria, dispersed meals, salad/sandwich bars, or take-out formats
- Roasting, baking, grilling, frying, boiling, and steaming meats, vegetables, and other menu items
- Preparing salads, rice, pasta, casseroles, dressings, breads, desserts, and fruit dishes
- Maintaining professionalism under pressure, including during special occasions and dignitary visits
- Informing management of menu changes, shortages, recipe adjustments, or equipment concerns
- Applying recipe standardization and assisting with new menu development
- Planning and coordinating multi-component meals within tight timelines
- Operating commercial kitchen equipment (fryers, steamers, rotisseries, mixers, grills, etc.)
- Transporting food and supplies between storage and preparation areas
- Adjusting portion sizes and recipes while minimizing waste
- Following safe operation, cleaning, and maintenance protocols for all equipment
- Participating in special event meal planning and execution, often in addition to regular duties
Hours of Work
- 37.5 hours per week
- Operating hours: Between 0530 – 1900
- Location: Petawawa, Ontario
