Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Collision Repair Tech to join our collision repair team. The ideal candidate has a passion for the automotive industry and takes pride in producing high-quality work while preparing vehicles for refinishing. This role is essential to ensuring repaired vehicles are properly repaired, prepped, and ready for paint.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare vehicles for painting by sanding, masking, feather-edging, cleaning, and priming surfaces to manufacturer and shop standards.
- Perform minor body repairs, including dent repairs and panel straightening, using appropriate repair techniques and tools.
- Apply body filler (plastic filler) and shape, sand, and finish repaired areas to achieve a paint-ready surface.
- Perform fibreglass repairs, including the application, shaping, and finishing of fibreglass repair materials where required.
- Remove and reinstall vehicle components as required to facilitate proper repairs and refinishing.
- Operate hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently, including sanders, grinders, DA sanders, and other body repair equipment.
- Inspect repaired panels to ensure all surfaces meet quality standards before entering the paint booth.
- Move vehicles and parts safely throughout the shop and assist with loading or positioning components when required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including the paint preparation area and equipment.
- Follow all workplace health and safety policies, environmental regulations, and manufacturer repair procedures.
- Work collaboratively with body technicians, painters, estimators, and other team members to ensure repairs are completed on schedule.
- Assist with additional shop duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience as an Automotive Prep Technician, Body Technician, Painter's Assistant, or in a collision repair/body shop environment is preferred.
- Proficiency in sanding, masking, priming, feather-edging, and vehicle surface preparation.
- Experience performing minor dent repairs, body filler application, block sanding, and panel finishing.
- Experience with fibreglass repairs and repair material application is considered a strong asset.
- Familiarity with vehicle disassembly and reassembly is an asset.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and collision repair equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced production environment while meeting repair deadlines.
- Physically capable of lifting heavy objects and performing repetitive tasks involving standing, bending, and lifting.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain a clean and safe workspace.
- Team-oriented with excellent communication skills and a positive attitude.
