Responsibilities:
1. Ensures a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for parents, partners,
caregivers, babies and children.
2. Plans, organizes, and implements stimulating play and learning environments for
children and their families through weekly drop-in programs with some offerings in
the evenings or weekends.
3. Provides one-on-one support to vulnerable clients. This would include respite support,
personalized referrals, active listening, occasional transportation to appointments.
4. Liaises with other community service providers, professionals to coordinate services
and to ensure that interests of clients are considered in decisions affecting them.
Accompanies clients to meetings and appointments as required.
5. Facilitates connections between participants through weekly drop-in groups and
offering activities that are are designed to reduce tension, to foster comfort, build
rapport and facilitate conversation in social settings.
6. Interacts with children to develop their social skills through play.
7. Shares information and resources and facilitates discussions with families on maternal
and infant nutrition, infant care, child development, and parenting
8. Encourages positive parent participation in play activities, offering feedback and
suggestions, when requested or required
9. Refers families to appropriate community resources as needed.
10. Assists with food preparation and serving of lunch to program participants.
11. Demonstrates cultural competency working with Indigenous families and community
by understanding local protocols, recognizing traditional territories, adopting
strengths-based approaches, and engaging in ongoing self-reflection to address
personal biases.
12. Demonstrates cultural competency working with newcomers through the ongoing
process of self-reflection, education, and active adaptation to ensure services are
welcoming, respectful, and effective.
13. Role models family centred strategies when supporting parents to understand their
child’s behaviour.
14. Follows protocol to ensure all toys and equipment meet safety standards. Identifies
and removes all potential hazards.
15. Collaborates and works respectfully with colleagues to ensure effective service
delivery consistent with agency and program mandate.
16. Connects with participants through emails and phone calls. Responsible to
administer survey forms to families, when necessary, to aid in collection of material
relevant to reporting and or accreditation. Maintains related records and statistics.
