Walk of Grace Residential Services Inc. is currently hiring High Support Treatment Counsellors to join our residential team in Ottawa.
This is not a traditional group-home position. We are looking for confident, dependable and compassionate staff who are comfortable providing intensive, hands-on behavioural support to individuals who may experience significant emotional and behavioural dysregulation.
Our High Support Treatment Counsellors work as part of a structured team to maintain safety, recognize precursor behaviours, intervene early, implement behaviour support strategies, and help the individuals we support achieve greater stability, independence and quality of life.
Starting wage is $25.50/hour.
About the Position
The successful candidate will support individuals with developmental disabilities and complex behavioural needs. At times, individuals may display verbal aggression, physical aggression, property destruction, elopement-related behaviours, significant emotional dysregulation, or other behaviours that present safety risks.
For that reason, applicants should be comfortable working in a high-support and potentially physically demanding environment and remaining calm and professional during challenging situations.
This position can be incredibly rewarding for someone who enjoys behavioural work, crisis prevention and developing meaningful relationships with individuals who require a higher level of support.
Responsibilities may include:
- Providing direct support to individuals with complex developmental and behavioural needs
- Recognizing precursor behaviours and intervening proactively before escalation
- Using positive behaviour supports, redirection and de-escalation strategies
- Implementing individualized Behaviour Support Plans and clinical recommendations
- Responding safely and professionally to behavioural crises
- Supporting individuals who may engage in verbal or physical aggression
- Following NVCI/crisis-prevention and organizational safety procedures
- Supporting community outings, appointments and recreational activities
- Teaching communication, daily living, social, hygiene and independent-living skills
- Administering medications in accordance with organizational procedures and training
- Completing detailed incident reports, behavioural documentation and clinical data collection
- Maintaining clear communication with supervisors, clinical professionals and other members of the support team
- Maintaining a safe, respectful and supportive home environment
Who We're Looking For
We are particularly interested in applicants who have experience in developmental services, behavioural support, residential care, mental health, youth work, dual diagnosis, autism services, crisis intervention, or other high-support environments.
You should be someone who can remain calm under pressure, follow behavioural protocols consistently, work collaboratively with a team, and understand that challenging behaviour is a form of communication that requires patience, structure and professional support.
Bilingualism in English and French is considered a strong asset but is not required.
Previous experience supporting individuals with aggressive or high-risk behaviours is also considered a strong asset.
Applicants must be willing and able to complete all required organizational training and safely perform the essential duties of the position.

Schedule
Applicants should have flexibility to work within a residential environment, which may include days, evenings, weekends and overnight shifts, depending on program needs.
