Role Overview
As a Level 3/4 Carpenter Apprentice or Experienced Residential Carpenter, you will take on a higher level of responsibility in the construction and renovation of residential projects.
You will be expected to work independently on a wide range of carpentry tasks while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, organization, and professionalism.
This role is ideal for a carpenter who has developed strong hands-on experience and is ready to take on more complex work, solve problems independently, and continue progressing toward a Journeyperson-level skill set.
You will work closely with Foremen, Red Seal carpenters, project managers, designers, subcontractors, and other members of the PHS Renovations team to deliver high-quality residential projects.
Key Responsibilities
Advanced Carpentry & Construction
- Complete a wide range of residential carpentry tasks with limited supervision
- Perform framing, structural carpentry, renovations, repairs, and finish carpentry
- Read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and project specifications
- Complete accurate layout and measurements
- Measure, cut, and install materials accurately and efficiently
- Install and work with doors, windows, cabinetry, trim, flooring, and other finish materials
- Assist with complex renovation and new-build construction
- Identify potential construction issues and communicate them before they become larger problems
- Complete work to company quality standards with minimal rework
- Take ownership of assigned tasks and see them through to completion
Job Site Organization & Productivity
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area
- Properly maintain and use personal and company tools and equipment
- Ensure materials are properly stored, protected, and used efficiently
- Identify material or equipment requirements before they become project delays
- Report damaged, missing, or unsafe tools and equipment
- Support efficient job-site workflow and project progress
- Help maintain project timelines by completing assigned work efficiently
Leadership & Team Support
- Provide guidance and support to less-experienced apprentices when appropriate
- Demonstrate proper work methods, tool use, and safety practices
- Support the Foreman and senior carpenters in maintaining job-site standards
- Contribute positively to team communication and collaboration
- Lead by example through professionalism, reliability, and quality workmanship
- Communicate challenges and potential delays to the appropriate team member
Problem-Solving & Communication
- Identify and troubleshoot common construction and carpentry issues
- Use sound judgment when determining the best approach to complete assigned work
- Ask questions when clarification is required rather than making assumptions
- Communicate project concerns, changes, and issues promptly
- Work collaboratively with Foremen, carpenters, subcontractors, designers, and project management
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company safety procedures and guidelines
- Use proper personal protective equipment at all times
- Maintain safe work practices when using hand tools, power tools, ladders, and equipment
- Identify and report hazards, incidents, and unsafe conditions immediately
- Maintain a clean and organized job site
- Support the company's commitment to COR-certified safety standards
Technology & Systems
- Use company apps and systems, including: Corfix, Connecteam, Site Docs, and Other company systems as required
- You will be expected to remain organized, complete required documentation, and stay up to date with project requirements and communications.
Customer Experience
- Maintain a professional and respectful presence in clients' homes
- Communicate respectfully with homeowners and team members
- Protect client property and maintain a clean work environment
- Minimize disruption to the client wherever possible
- Represent PHS Renovations professionally on every job site
- Understand that quality workmanship and customer experience are equally important

Who We're Looking For
You are not just someone who can swing a hammer — you:
- Have approximately 3+ years of residential carpentry experience, or equivalent experience and demonstrated skill
- Are currently a Level 3/4 Carpenter Apprentice or have equivalent hands-on experience
- Have experience in several of the following:
- New home construction
- Residential framing
- Kitchen renovations
- Bathroom renovations
- Basement renovations
- Structural repairs
- Doors and windows
- Trim and finish carpentry
- General residential renovations
- Can work independently on many carpentry tasks
- Can read and understand construction drawings and basic project plans
- Have strong measuring, layout, and material-use skills
- Take pride in your workmanship and attention to detail
- Are reliable, professional, and accountable
- Have strong problem-solving skills
- Work well as part of a team
- Are willing to support and guide less-experienced team members
- Must have your own personal tools; larger equipment is supplied by the company
- Have a valid driver's licence and reliable vehicle (required)

Working Hours & Overtime
- Flexible hours based on project timelines and client schedules
- Typical working window: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–10:00 PM
- Occasional weekend work may be required
Overtime Structure
Maximum of:
- 12 hours per day
- 60 hours per week
- 80 hours per 2-week pay period (per averaging agreement)
- Overtime is paid at 1.5x your hourly rate with pre-approval.
