Position Overview
The Accounts Receivable Clerk plays an important role in supporting the firm's day-to-day financial operations. Working closely with lawyers, legal assistants, clients, and fellow members of the Accounting team, you will assist with client payments, accounts receivable, billing support, and financial record maintenance while ensuring compliance with the Law Society of Ontario's financial requirements.
This position is well suited to someone who enjoys working with numbers, providing excellent client service, and contributing to a collaborative, fast-paced professional environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and record client payments received by cash, cheque, debit, credit card, INTERAC e-Transfer, and transfers from trust
- Respond to client inquiries regarding payments, invoices, and account balances
- Review accounts receivable and assist lawyers with managing outstanding balances
- Follow up with clients regarding overdue accounts in a professional and courteous manner
- Meet regularly with lawyers to review receivables and outstanding accounts
- Complete write-offs and billing adjustments as requested
- Maintain accurate financial records while ensuring compliance with Law Society of Ontario requirements, including By-Law 9
- Assist with monthly billing processes and provide backup support to other Accounting Clerks, including invoicing and statement preparation
- Support the Accounting team with reporting, training, and other administrative tasks as required
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and provide additional departmental support as needed
Qualifications & Experience
- Post-secondary education in Accounting or a related field
- Minimum of one year of accounting experience (co-op or internship experience will be considered)
- Solid understanding of basic accounting principles, including accounts receivable and financial recordkeeping
- Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to prioritize competing deadlines while maintaining accuracy
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer service mindset
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
Technology & Tools
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Experience with accounting software such as Soluno, PCLaw, or QuickBooks is considered an asset
- Familiarity with legal document management systems such as NetDocuments is considered an asset
- Knowledge of the Law Society of Ontario's By-Law 9 (Financial Transactions and Records) is considered an asset
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $47,000-$58,000 per year, commensurate with experience
