Job Summary:
Quality Engineer/Analyst is responsible for developing, implementing, and improving quality systems and controls that ensure AVL products meet customer, engineering, regulatory, and internal requirements.
This role serves as the link between Engineering, Production, and Suppliers, focusing on defect prevention, risk reduction, and process control rather than inspection alone.
The Core purpose of the role is to prevent defects from reaching the customer by:
- Building robust processes
- Driving root cause correction
- Strengthening supplier and internal quality controls
- Using data to reduce variation and rework
Job Responsibilities
1. Production Quality Support
- Provide daily quality engineering support for production
- Investigate recurring defects, escapes, and rework trends
- Develop corrective and preventive actions to eliminate root causes
- Participating in production problem-solving and containment activities
2. Root Cause & Corrective Action
- Lead or support 8D / RCA investigations for:
- Internal nonconformances
- Customer complaints
- Supplier issues
- Verify effectiveness of corrective actions
- Drive systemic fixes, not just short-term containment
3. Process Control & Risk Reduction
- Develop and improve:
- Control plans
- Inspection plans
- Process checks points
- Identify high-risk areas in manufacturing and implement error-proofing where possible
- Support PFMEA and risk-based thinking initiatives
4. Nonconformance Management
- Review and support disposition of nonconforming material
- Ensure proper segregation, documentation, and traceability
- Track internal COPQ (Cost of Poor Quality) drivers such as rework and scrap
5. Documentation & QMS Support
- Maintain and improve quality procedures and work instructions
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and AVL QMS requirements
- Support internal and external audits
6. Data & Metrics
- Analyze quality data to identify trends and systemic issues
- Support reporting on:
- Internal defect rates
- Rework
- Customer issues
- Supplier performance
- Use data to prioritize improvement activities
7. Customer Quality Support
- Support customer issue investigations
- Assist with corrective action responses
- Help ensure lessons learned are implemented internally
8. Other tasks as assigned
Job Qualifications
1. Degree or diploma in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field (or equivalent experience)
2. Experience in manufacturing quality or process engineering
3. Minimum of 3 -5 years’ experience in Quality Engineering
4. Strong understanding of mechanical drawings and specifications
5. Knowledge of inspection tools and measurement techniques
6. Ability to interpret engineering drawings and standards
7. Knowledge of root cause methodologies (8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone)
8. Effective communication with technical and production teams
9. Preferred experience with ISO 9001 quality systems
10. Preferred familiarity with NCR, FAI, and supplier quality processes
11. Highly detail-oriented
12. Proficiency in creating clear and concise documentation
