Job Description
The Wall Instructor is a part time position responsible for the day to day operations of the wall consisting of day to day setup of the wall, programming instruction as well as general customer service. This entails: setting up and taking down the ropes/belay stations at the beginning/end of shift, checking guests into the wall using booking software, ensuring all guests have signed a waiver prior to climbing. Teaching top rope belay technique, sport climbing and/or dry tooling and/or ice climbing safety, teaching basic sport climbing and/or ice climbing and/or drytooling movement and technique, taking customer payments through a debit terminal or otherwise ensuring that customers have paid, and answering any general inquiries from customers.

Work Location: Working in person at Climb YEG (9735 Grierson Hill NW, Edmonton, Alberta), available evenings and weekends. Schedule will be discussed and agreed upon in advance and shown via the Connecteams App.
Proposed Start Date: June 15, 2026
Contract Term: Ongoing with the option to review, renegotiate terms and extend as needed. Please note this contract will require regular check-ins on performance and outcomes.
Job Responsibilities Include:
- Ensuring clients are set up with rental equipment (if required) and have a signed waiver
- Being able to teach clients general wall safety, how to safely belay and how to protect themselves on the wall
- Being able to enthusiastically break down and teach climbing movement/technique to climbers of all abilities while offering feedback during lessons
- Supporting additional adventure program delivery while on shift
- Being able to accept POS payment through Rock Gym Pro
- Share your passion for climbing and help grow the sport!
- Day to day setup and takedown
- Ensure wall runs smoothly while on shift
- Accept POS payments from customers through on site laptop and debit terminal
- Answering questions and concerns from customers
- Teach programs at the wall during regular operations
- Ensuring quality events across all Climb YEG offerings through working with various stakeholders, and by providing on the ground program management and/or support
- Implementing on site best practices to streamline operations and deliver a high quality of customer service
- Supporting Climb YEG marketing development and activities
- Attending industry events, if desired, to help promote Climb YEG in the Community
Conditions:
- Experience teaching sport climbing technique (rock or gym), and the ability to teach climbing safety (tying in, belaying, etc.)
- Strongly Recommended: ACMG CGI Level 1 or equivalent
- Experience ice climbing and/or drytooling is an asset
- Ability to work 10-30 hrs of shifts a week during regular operations
- Excellent customer service skills
- Emergency or Standard first-aid
- Able to lift 50 lbs+
- Health and safety protocols are subject to change within the workplace and based on event venue rules
Compensation:
- Hourly contract rate of $20-$22.50/hour, rate is dependant on experience and certifications
