Duties
- Measure, cut, shape, and lay stone using hand tools such as chisels, hammers, trowels, and levels to meet project specifications.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and detailed construction drawings to ensure accurate placement of stones in various structures.
- Operate power tools including grinders, drills, and saws safely and efficiently to facilitate precise masonry work.
- Assist in renovation and restoration projects by matching existing stonework and implementing techniques that preserve historical integrity.
- Use heavy equipment for lifting and positioning large stones or materials as required for complex installations.
- Apply caulking or mortar mixes to secure stones firmly in place while ensuring proper alignment and finish quality.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, and other tradespeople to ensure timely completion of projects that meet safety standards and quality expectations.
Requirements
- Proven experience in construction with a strong focus on masonry or stone work; familiarity with general construction practices is essential.
- Proficiency with hand tools such as chisels, hammers, trowels, levels, as well as power tools like grinders and saws.
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings accurately for precise execution of tasks.
- Knowledge of renovation techniques including restoration methods that preserve or replicate original stonework.
- Experience operating heavy equipment used in masonry projects for lifting or positioning large stones safely.
- Strong understanding of safety protocols related to construction sites, tool handling, and heavy machinery operation.
- Excellent attention to detail coupled with physical stamina to perform demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
