POSITION OVERVIEW: The Human Trafficking Prevention Liaison is responsible for coordinating culturally grounded, trauma-informed programming, workshops, community engagement initiatives, and partnership development throughout Indigenous communities in Nova Scotia.
The Liaison will work collaboratively with community members, youth, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, service providers, educational partners, government representatives, and community organizations to advance awareness, prevention, education, and community safety initiatives related to human trafficking, gender-based violence, and wellness affecting Indigenous women, girls, Two-Spirit individuals, youth, and families.
The position will work collaboratively with NSNWA program staff, community partners, and specialized support programs to support coordinated community engagement, education, prevention initiatives, referrals, and culturally safe programming throughout Nova Scotia.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate and support community initiatives related to human trafficking prevention, awareness, and community safety.
- Assist with the planning, scheduling, coordination, and delivery of culturally grounded and trauma-informed workshops, prevention sessions, and community engagement activities throughout Nova Scotia.
- Work collaboratively with NSNWA program staff, community organizations, schools, educators, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and partner agencies to support community-based programming and prevention initiatives.
- Support engagement and relationship-building with Indigenous communities and NSNWA chapters throughout Nova Scotia.
- Support youth-focused prevention initiatives, peer-led dialogue circles, awareness campaigns, and educational programming.
- Assist in identifying service gaps, barriers, and community priorities through engagement with communities, survivors, and service providers.
- Work collaboratively with other NSNWA staff and programs to support referrals, advocacy, outreach, and culturally safe supports relating to violence prevention and community wellness.
- Support the development of culturally grounded educational resources, toolkits, promotional materials, and community supports.
- Assist with coordinating roundtables, meetings, consultations, and community engagement sessions.
- Promote culturally safe, inclusive, and healing-centred programming and support environments.
- Assist in strengthening referral pathways and collaborative relationships between organizations and service providers.
- Maintain accurate records, activity tracking, statistics, reports, and program documentation as required by funding agreements and organizational requirements.
- Assist with ongoing project evaluation, data collection, and reporting requirements.
- Support outreach, awareness, and advocacy initiatives related to human trafficking prevention and community safety.
- Travel throughout Nova Scotia is required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary education in social work, community studies, Indigenous studies, human services, education, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities and knowledge of Mi’kmaw culture, traditions, and community realities.
- Knowledge and understanding of issues related to human trafficking, gender-based violence, trauma-informed approaches, and community wellness.
- Experience coordinating workshops, community programming, outreach, or engagement initiatives.
- Strong communication, facilitation, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Experience working with diverse community partners, stakeholders, and service providers.
- Strong computer literacy skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work within culturally safe and trauma-informed practices.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.

- Ability to practice and maintain appropriate self-care, wellness, and professional boundaries within trauma-informed and emotionally sensitive environments.
