Sr. Geotechnical Engineer
MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to support one of British Columbia’s largest utility providers on a variety of medium- to high-complexity geotechnical engineering projects. This role is ideal for a senior geotechnical professional with strong technical expertise in site investigations, geohazard assessments, foundation design, and linear infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will provide engineering leadership, technical guidance, field support, and risk-based recommendations to support critical infrastructure across the province.
This is a contractual hybrid opportunity based in Burnaby, BC. 2- 3 days/ week onsite is required
- Plan and execute geotechnical site investigations.
- Conduct engineering analysis related to soil and rock mechanics, settlement, seismic hazards, and terrain stability.
- Develop safe, practical engineering solutions and recommendations for infrastructure projects.
- Perform risk assessments and provide technical support on complex geotechnical issues.
- Prepare and review engineering reports, designs, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, stakeholders, contractors, and project managers.
- Provide field support and participate in site assessments as required.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or eligible for registration in British Columbia.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience.
- Experience planning and executing geotechnical site investigations.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Soil and rock mechanics
- Landslide and terrain stability assessments
- Seismic assessments, including liquefaction analysis
- Settlement assessments
- Geomorphological analysis
- Risk assessment methodologies
- Shallow and deep foundation design
- Proficiency with GIS software and slope stability modelling.
- Ability and willingness to perform field work.
- Experience working as an Owner’s Engineer.
- Experience supporting linear infrastructure projects such as highways, roads, or pipelines.
- Design experience involving retaining walls and shoring systems.
- Emergency response and safety-focused geotechnical assessments.
- Flood assessment experience.
- Groundwater and hydrological modelling expertise.
- Ground improvement experience.
- Trenchless design experience.
